I went to the Apple Store just now and held the midnight color in person. My hands were pretty dry and the fingerprints were not as bad as seen in some of the Youtube reviews. I guess it depends on each individuals oiliness. But I had a microfiber cloth and tried to clean it. Fingerprints don't wipe off so easily and I think if you want to keep it really clean you need to wipe it a lot or use a damp cloth.

Midnight is better in person then in the photos and it really does change color depending on the angle you look at it. But from far away it looks like any old black laptop..Lenevo, Dell etc.

I prefer the classic silver. But if midnight was my thing, I might reconsider it based on the fingerprint issue.

I guess it depends on how you feel about fingerprints on your stuff in general. It bugs me to see the fingerprints on my keyboard keys, which is their natural habitat. My hands are super clean and it still looks like I was eating fried chicken while I was typing 🤷‍♂️
With starlight available my guess is the take rate for silver will be near 0.

the darker colour hides them a bit, mainly on top and bottom track pad and sides are ok, it's not enough a issue not to buy midnight, best colour hands down

I had the same impression when handling it. Looks better in person, fingerprints are hard to wipe off, and from a distance, looks like my work Dell… I’ve had SG for seven years over several computers, so I’ve gone silver this time.

I initially ordered a Midnight one but changed it to Silver. Hope I don't regret it.

I still think Midnight looks really nice when it has the blue-ish tint, but I don't like it all that much when it looks almost black. Kind of afraid scratches will be really visible on it, but it's not that I had a lot of scratches on my old one.

On the other hand Silver looks 'older' and less special.

So really indecisive here too o_O. Argh!

Just saw the MacBook Air in the apple store and honestly midnight colour isn’t nice, it’s a blue tint that just looks odd and the fingerprints wow even the manager at the store said they keep cleaning it but just holding it made so many finger prints, why did apple release this colour with this issue

Light silver is the only real way to go, IMO (if you don't mind the choice). If you don't like light silver and want something darker, I think you might as well pick any color you really want, won't make much of a difference.

Just purchased a dark silver iPad pro, and fingerprints are horrible 😅. Light silver MBA is much better, though it's still visible.

The current space gray gets fingerprints as well, all Macs do. I don’t get why people are acting like the Midnight is suddenly the only one that gets fingerprints that show.

It's the darkest anodised aluminium Mac released and you can now see why they previously hadn't done this, it's looks a mess very quickly. Yes they all show fingerprints but on the previous darkest option, Space Grey, they are much less noticeable.

That may be true as far as being noticeable but, I think people here are making way too much about that insignificant aspect. Wipe it down once a day or wear gloves if people can’t work on their computer if it has any fingerprints. I already keep my stuff looking new anyway so, it isn‘t a big deal for my to wipe down the M2 along with my other Macs.

Just had a look at my Space Grey MBP and it's covered in noticeable fingerprints. I do wipe it down once in a while with a damp then dry micro fibre, but I've been using it everyday without a thought about fingerprints so expecting the same with the Midnight.
Happy to give it a wipe once in a while but otherwise won't be agonising over something so trivial.

I don't think I have ever seen fingerprints cling to a device as much as this Midnight colour for the M2.
I'd probably be feeling some pretty hard buyers remorse right now if I had dropped the dime on that colour. Oosh.

Does anyone who's super annoyed by fingerprints have a phone or iPad? You use your fingers a lot more on those devices and, as we all know, those screens are REAL fingerprint magnets! You must spend the whole of your waking hours wiping off the screens! I kid, I kid...... but sorta not. :)

So now that it's been quite confirmed and displayed on multiple YouTube reviews, that the glorious Midnight color is a total fingerprint hog, anyone reconsidering their choice of color?

I'm on the fence. I've been wanting a black-ish MacBook since what, the last one in 2006 or so. I can probably deal with the fingerprints. Right? Right. Right……? T_T
People will find anything to complain about,
If anything, It should be an indication that you need to wash your hands more often.

I remember the Cute Girl at the Startup I used to work at, had the Black 2006 MacBook Pro. I replaced the Hard Drive for her, it was a nice looking Apple, I'd definitely want to buy their new Midnight alloy, they hired one of the worlds "sorta-renowned" metallurgists to come up with that, years ago.

OK so I went to go pick up my Midnight at the Apple Store. Before having the dude bring it out, I went to go play with the Midnight and Starlight floor models.

Straight up, the Midnight is not bad at all with the fingerprints. I handled the freshly-wiped floor model and nothing jumped out at me, for real. And I hate hate hate glossy stuff and fingerprints – the glass on iDevices are really the only mandatory exception, and even then I wipe mine pretty often.

Just unboxed my own Midnight model, handled it, and didn't leave any prints. Now of course they will be more visible when they are left, but normal handling and use didn't leave any noticeable prints. (And honestly I'm kinda an oily person T___T )

Which means people probably just don't wash their damn hands. Y'all gross. Looking at you, every-YouTuber that has reviewed Midnight. I really encourage everyone to at least check out Midnight in person at a store and touch it a lot before bouncing to another color due to fingerprint hubbub… including my own thread right here. ;)

Not bothered, I plan to get a clear matte skin as I have on my M1 Air. Can't even tell it's there and it reduces fingerprints, enhances grip and prevents surface scratches.

If the skin doesn't look "just right" I'll go without

Lot of fingerprints on exterior of this unit

Probably same will happen on palm rests

I was surprised how subtle starlight is even under bright lighting

Without silver for reference (14" MBP left) it had me second guessing it’s color and is even more subtle than th e photo let’s on

I would like someone with M1 air and m2 air to show a photo of off axis viewing angle tint and brightness

I have a sneaky feeling it’s worse contrast off axis vs M1 air panels but hard to tell going off memory and bright lighting in the store

I like how midnight changes color depending on the light, but it reminds me of a windows laptops when its open. Personally I always go silver! Enjoy it either way!
