Can someone give me an example of then/than being abused?

It annoys me when people say I could care less when what they really mean to say is I couldn't care less.

I've also noticed forum members writing "brought" instead of "bought".

If then is used where than is meant, than we will be annoyed.

Wouldn't you rather people use than for then, when than is meant, than use then?

No, she's always like that. Don't take it personally.

For those who don't know you, I'll say you're being facetious.

Bought and Brought really piss me off.

"I've just brought an iPad."

"Oh let's see"

"Well I don't have it with me"

I've never heard that one ever. This topic was brought up years ago and someone pointed that out too, between that original post and this I've really never heard someone say "brought" instead of "bought".
Is it maybe a local dialect thingymajig?

I just want to add that if my original post came across as snooty it really wasn't meant to be.

Simply a totally honest question.
Don't worry about it. It's a perfectly legitimate question. The other misspellings people mentioned are also annoying, although I think the grand prize winner has to be "loose" vs. "lose". I believe I see those two words used incorrectly more often than they are used correctly.

I've heard it. They actually meant to say "brung." ;)

One thing that gets my dander up is when people write "I should of done this or that..." It's should have!

i've noticed that too! I think its simply a phonetic derivative, however...

Should have is shortened to should've, which in turn somewhat sounds like should of! Which then, when people type, causes them to write it as should of, rather than should've or should have. Personally i write it as should've but i still don't think its great grammar :D

Nothing--and I mean NOTHING--makes someone look dimmer than putting the dollar symbol AFTER the number.

150$ HUR HUR HURRRRR UNNNGGGGFFFFFFF!!

Oh goodie, someone outside the US here to bash the US schooling system. How quaint. :rolleyes

As somebody who has done a significant amount of schooling both here and abroad, let me tell you that your average public school in US is crap. As an example, in math what I was doing here in 10th grade we did in another country in 7th and in much more detail. And the high school I want to was considered a very good one at the same time. College was a different story but it was a private one in my case after all.

Grammarwise, the worst offense to me is when people use ' for plural. Example Honda's and Toyota's instead of Hondas and Toyotas. Just pisses me off. Oh, and another thing. How come many people I know who were not born here can actually write better than many Americans born and raised? That is just wrong.

Things I've seen on this forum for the first time:

"Oh common" instead of "Oh come on" and "walla" instead of "Voilà"

Could care less... when what they mean is COULDN'T care less.

Plus. 'I aksed him' or some pronunciation like that, when it's ASKED.

Those really annoy me.

Oh - and the way Gordon Brown says " One point three billions " When the plural is on the POUNDS not the BILLIONS Gordon.
