Again, total speculation? iPhone 6 was the most insane demand ever and they sold 4M in 24 hrs and 10M during opening weekend.

Between even a muted iPhone 8 opening weekend and iPhone X, I’d do my own speculating that those are over 10M.

iPhone 6 pre-orders did not include China. Or Russia. Or most of Europe. Apple took a staggered launch approach in 2014 with only 8 countries on day one.

The iPhone X launch was worldwide.

iPhone X preorders: 5.5 million in 5 hours in China alone, analyst.

I will trust actual numbers coming from credit card processors, thank you. Not some white analyst translating some Chinese news that I can read on my own.

Chinese iPhone buyers who reported incomes above 200,000 RMB (approximately US$30,000), an extraordinary 52% plan to buy the iPhone X.

Literally almost every article has reported insane demand for iPhone X, yet we still have people speculating it’s disappointing. Read: speculating. Hard to say it’s a disappointment with all countries and carriers into December within 24hrs. Can’t wait until sales and guidance come out in January.

I don’t think a $999 price will deter many. They don’t look at it as $999...they look at it as $41/month.

iPhone 6 sold 4m units in 24hours. I’d bet anything iPhone X sold more than that.

The only negative China news I saw was mainland said Dec ship almost immediately, so people went to Hong Kong.

Among those who can afford it in China, over 50% said they will buy an iPhone X.

So the small subset of iPhone buyers (Huawei, Oppo, and Vivo lead market share) in China are willing to buy an iPhone X.

The "$41/month" figure you mentioned is non-existent in China because Chinese buy their unlocked phones outright. Carriers don't have monthly installments.

Strange. When I lived in Shenzhen there were all sorts of monthly contract deals in stores like China Mobile.

The 5.5M is from a Chinese analyst who is actually not very bullish on AAPL. He has a $150 target on it.

The worldwide launch should tell you something about Apple's real supply and/or ability to ramp production quickly.

And you're only talking about China now? The $41/month IS a huge factor for MANY buyers. The Chinese have so much money, particularly those who aspire to Western culture, they are willing to pay.

Pretty sure Chinese can pay Apple in installments and have for a while. You're also wrong about carriers in China. My friend, who is Chinese and lives in China, confirmed you can do it with many carriers and even retail vendors. He also said the demand/buzz for iPhone X is nothing like he's seen before.

You're right. The pre-order numbers on the iPhone 6 didn't include China, but they only sold 1M iPhone 6 and 6 Plus in the first 8 hours in China. As I said, this is 5.5M in 5 hours. It was later that China ramped to an insane number for iPhone 6, but it was pent up demand for a large screen. In the first hours, iPhone X seems even more popular in China than iPhone 6. We don't know how many pre-orders iPhone X will ramp to because there are no official numbers.

Note: iPhone X orders are for 5 HOURS and the others are for 3 days.

I've read a lot of your posts and you've been an iPhone X hater long before numbers have come out. Market disagrees with you and Apple will crush in 2018. It's happening. Apple hit an all time high today. Are you short btw? I can't blame you for denying the iPhone X popularity if you are.

You're absolutely right.
