The only people sticking to this “AI disaster” narrative are those who think Siri is supposed to be a ChatGPT replacement. But why do we need a ChatGPT replacement? Apple devices are already the best way to use ChatGPT.

You just answered your own question. Apple squandered its first-mover advantage with Siri, which hasn't improved in a decade. Now it must rely on third-party solutions (eg ChatGPT) while it scrambles to catch up.
