I've enjoyed using my iPhone 13 mini ever since it came out. I was amazed at how much more screen area Apple was able to engineer into a device the size of my old iPhone SE (1st generation). I've no complaints, save one. If Apple had made an iPhone 13 mini Pro with a third telephoto lens, I would have seriously considered buying it. But they didn't.

Rather, they've stopped selling minis altogether.

I guess that makes sense. If the iPhone 12 mini accounted for only 6% of all sales, and the 13 mini accounted for only 3%, then Apple isn't going to invest in that product lineup and release something like a mini Pro.

Although I did come across some hopeful notions in that topic, such as the possibility of a mini being released as a future SE. I've wondered, myself, whether Apple might consider releasing a new mini every 4 years or so. It would be similar to McDonald's McRib, which is only around 2-4 months each year.

The mini internals were already jam packed inside the available space, there literally isn’t room for another camera and the spec of a pro model.

Plus as already mentioned, sales were poor. But maybe one day…

Battery. There is absolutely no room for a telephoto. I do wonder if it will 2x telephoto on the iPhone 15 if they use the same camera as the 14 Pro

Because of physics.
There's only so much space inside such small phone.
People already complain about the battery life of the 12 mini (13 mini is better, but still an issue). Plus, camera units are getting bigger. Trading off the already mediocre tiny battery would ruin usability.

OTOH, I wish Apple didn't give up on the mini so quickly. With 48MP sensors, not having telephoto is no longer a big deal as you can still get lossless 2x. And instead of the 5.4" form factor, Apple should reuse the 5.8" form factor instead. Aka bring back the Xs/11 Pro size. Those are more compact than the current 6.1" regular iPhones, and can hold decent amount of battery.

I would have been fine with it being slightly thicker to accommodate whatever. Even if they couldn’t throw an extra camera on it, they could have improved the battery significantly and added the 120hz and always on display.

I’d love a mini pro, and would buy one the day it became available. I wonder how many else would opt for it though. I’d imagine it would cost $200 more than a standard mini, and $100 more than the non-pro standard size model. Unfortunately, I just don’t really see it selling very well.
