Agreed. There is nothing "pro" about that rumored iPhone, especially not the better camera or smart connector.
However, if they'd introduce a Continuum like feature that is focused on productivity (which they won't), the Pro moniker could be a little more appropriate.
Just like the ipad 9'7 "pro". Its biggest difference from the ipad air 2 is the stylus support (which by the way should have been supported way before) , yet they still call it "pro". So I think its just Apple's naming scheme.

Just another guess from Op. Maybe they should call this place Mac-Guesses, not make MacRumors.
I'd say MacRumor-basedguesses is more appropriate haha since it's not just pure guess, it's based on rumors

It starts to make sense now. Apple will retire the "plus" version and replace it with the "pro" instead to make it consistent with other product lines (ipad and Macbook) There will be 2 versions: iphone 7 and iphone 7 pro. However, unlike the "plus", the iPhone "pro" won't be $100 more than the smaller one. It's probably $150 more since it has far more features (dual camera, 3gb ram, 1080p screen) . Just like what they did with the iPad.

Yep just Apple doing Apple things.. Them greedy bastards...

Not sure about this year, but seems they are moving to a long-term product line with base, smaller models and pro models... I think in a couple of years could look like this:

Macbook (1 size, 12")
Macbook Pro (2 sizes, 13" and 15")
iPad (1 size, 7.9")
iPad Pro (2 sizes, 12.9" and 9.7" or 10.5")
iPhone (1 size, 4" - maybe the SE updated every year or two)
iPhone Pro (2 sizes, 4.7" and 5.5")

A product line like this would make sense and would be more polished from a product identification point of view (to be honest, for someone that is not familiar with Apple products and naming... it become fragmented and could be confusing... they currently have Air, Mini, Plus, Pro, SE, etc products).
