the tricorder is coming. I can't wait for the laser/sonar 3d scanner,or gas analyzer! If i was in china with bad air I would want my iphone to measure how bad the smog is.

The range isn't good enough for where I live. We need around -35 Celsius for it to be useful. And yes that is before the Wind Chill.

I can't think of one reason why I would use this.

I would be more interested in a thermometer for taking someone's temperature. Mouth, not rear, preferably.

Even better would be an attachment with an infrared laser for cooking or industrial purposes.

1 peripheral I woul love to invent if not already out there is a peripheral plug in that picks up local tv...perfect for storms etc that wipe out cable Internet and tv
I was about to say, break out the Sega Gamegear with the TV tuner. Then I realized that won't even work since the switch from Analog to Digital signals. :(

Seriously though, I can't believe no one has thought of a local tv tune in....we all take 3G or wifi for granted, what if we get caught without it. It would be great to plug in a local tv tuner....

How can I ever start even thinking about a kick starter project for this...I wold have no idea even how to make it!!! Lol

As a landlord in NYC, I may have a use for this. We have to maintain a certain temperature in apartments during heat season. If a tenant complains it's too cold in his or her apartment, I need to be able to verify that. A regular thermometer is a pain because you have to wait for it to reach the ambient temperature.

Elgato has the "eyetv mobile" (that's the U.S. version, for most other countries you'd need this version).
That device only receives TV signals from the Dyle network.

The signal of the Dyle network looks spotty and it sounds like they will start charging a fee to use it in 2014.

Is there a subscription fee for Dyle mobile TV?
Dyle mobile TV is available with no subscription fee through the end of 2013.

I will wait for something that receives an ATSC signal like an HD Television does.

Could I connect it to an 3.5mm audio extension cable? Then I could run the cord from outside to my bedroom and plug in the extension in the morning to see the temp outside. THAT would be cool.

Grandpa: "When I was your age we had an actual thermometer outside the window!"

Another Idea

I am thinking about launching a kickstarter project to get support for a doo dat that plugs into your iPhone or iPad (all models) that tells you how much useless crap you have bought to plug into your iPhone or iPad (all models)

I was going to call it the iSuck but I think that name would confuse people who have already bought similar gadgets!!

What's the likelihood that the iPhone 6 will have this built in?

What I'd like is a build in sonic detector to measure short distances, like in a room.
