So i still have 3 products in lightning - APM, APP2, iPhone 14 PM. Since APP2 and iPhone 14 PM can be charged with magsafe that are USB-C, my APM still in need of lightning cable.

Now they just need to include high speed USB cables for all their products even if the cheap out on the USB controller.
Apple’s cables are worse than generic ones. They fray within a year. I’m very happy with their move to usb-c, now I have even less need to even consider buying Apple cables.

Other than a hugely better camera/s, is there anything Apple that has acutally really improved since the iPhone 4S???
Good sentiment, but I'd move forward a couple years to the 6+. That was a meaningful upgrade. My subsequent upgrades to the 8+ and... IDK, 12 Pro (so utterly unimportant/unimpressive I can't even remember which one it is) were solely done because I wasn't allowed to connect the older devices to my company network anymore.

Now all they need to do is add bluetooth pairing options 1, 2, 3 to allow easy switching and pairing of multiple devices like most decent keyboards have such as LogiTech...might actually buy the Magic Keyboard then
“Why would you want that if you can just buy three Magic Keyboards instead?” — Tim Cook

The updated Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad notably adds a 🌐 key at the bottom-left corner.

I use the adjacent control key frequently in Terminal, and this new key looks like it will annoyingly interfere with that. So I'll keep using my existing device for now.

TIL that Apple sells a Magic Keyboard without Touch ID. Whats the purpose there, just for a lower price point?
The touchid part of the touchid one wont work with intel machines, so there’s prob still a market for folks who want an an apple keyboard without it and a touch cheaper for their intel mac

Bitching and whining about Apple’s prices is tiresome, but $200 for a keyboard is insane.
It’s not necessarily insane for a keyboard, like a robust ergonomic one with mechanical switches, but it is for the rather flimsy Apple keyboards.

Not with Apple. Because you have to use and only use their products. And then you don't need switching options.

So easy.

I will still buy the TouchID model. Because sooner or even sooner I'll have to switch to Silicon anyway.

There's something wrong with your cable then because it really isn't the most fragile connector ever made - it's by far the most robust USB connector ever made, far far more than USB-A and leagues clear of all the horrible mini ones that existed prior.
I’ve seen people break off the part inside the device a few times. While it’s leagues better than mini/micro-USB, the lightning plug really was a fantastic form factor. The speed sucked, and the whole MFi program wasn’t so great. If USB-C had adopted the same style as lightning, it would definitely be far superior, but I’m sure Apple had a patent against that type of design.

And yes, all the cables Apple included were trash. That was probably by design too. Cost them 25¢ to make, and they sold them for $25-$30? They knew what they were doing.

The last bits of lint left in the world must be shaking at this news.

After all, there is about a 1.5 years worth of posts assuring us that forcing iPhone to USB-C would result in lint magnet galore. So 3 more products and there will be no place left for lint to survive. Pity the poor remaining lint.

...unless, of course, that was one big pile of nonsense. And I hope all of us are getting on with our lives without tripping over all those USB-C broken tongues too. By this point- based on countless posts so assuring us of it- I would expect most places to be obscured-to-fully-buried under piles of them.

And don't get me started on "wobbly."

All ;)

More seriously, how nice that we are now knocking on the door or one, NON-proprietary port type to rule them all! 🎉

Nice catch! I wonder what that key is where the globe previously was.

Good point. Just realized I purchased the Touch ID keyboard + trackpad back when I had a 2018 Mac mini. Eventually upgraded to an M2 Mac mini so was nice to start using Touch ID.

It’s not necessarily insane for a keyboard, like a robust ergonomic one with mechanical switches, but it is for the rather flimsy Apple keyboards.

I almost forgot that the option for black keys brings along a $20 premium.

As I mentioned in another thread, Lightning in design is a far better connector than USC-C. Smaller footprint, more robust, positive locking. Apple really dropped the ball not getting it to become the standard connector over the abomination we have now.

sadly the Powerbeats Pro have Lightning.
I almost wanted to swap to the ‚Nothing Ear Open“ they are awesome. But i really like the H1 switch to whatever iDevice is near to me. So i wait for the Powerbeats Pro 2….mhhh

Valid point, I was focusing on the fragility based on Lightning vs USB-C, I agree that some USB-A, mini, micro, and others have had issues, but to be honest, nearly all of those cables and devices still work, even from dollar stores.

I was in the Apple Store last, year, or a couple years ago, at the support desk, a couple were there, his wife had broken another iPad with USB-C. She apologized, but the Apple rep had to replace the iPad. The husband was saying that with the older iPads, they could just grab and slip the lightning connector without issue, without looking, and without having it break. Something with the USB-C... and the persons behaviors, kept breaking it. I personally have a USB-C magnetic connector on my iPad so that I no longer fear breaking off the USB-C connector.

I waited for the MagSafe3 to upgrade to the MacBook Air. I have no desire to have a random stranger accidentally yank a USB-C cord out of my MacBook at a coffee shop, or at a group event.

I am thankful that all USB-A, mini, micro, custom, and others have gone to USB-C. I just wish they had a more resistant port on the device side (entry port).

Just to trigger the OCD of people like me with the different border radius of the current version of the "matching" Magic Trackpad (I found one with the previous border radius on eBay, fortunately). 😤

A new iPhone SE with a USB-C port is rumored to launch next year, while the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus should be discontinued next September.
I wonder if the 14 will even last that long. The SE is basically a souped up 14 for a lower price from what's rumored. The ultra wide camera is the only thing the 14 has over the SE. I'm not sure it will make sense to keep in the lineup especially with the SE having AI.

I would even disagree with that. The iPhone 4S camera is really good, honestly try it out again. It might not have the sharpness, but the colours are more realistic than the current overprocessed garbage.

Same as the UK site, not sure what was were there before today.

Edit: @GMShadow proved otherwise. Seems strange not to feature them all in one page tho!
It's just that they aren't featured any more as they are legacy products that are still sold for people with older iPads that aren't sold any more. They will be quietly discontinued in a couple years.
