I believe for an aquatinted user, Swype would actually be faster than siri. Assuming speed is an issue (Which I have to assume it is, since we're talking about swype).

That being said I think being able to send a text in the amount of time it takes to say the words is pretty impressive, especially since you don't need your hands to do it.

If you own other apple products then you're missing out a little by not using iPhone. Everything syncs great across all devices. One of those things I never thought I'd use or need and now I don't know how I lived without it.

lol i love how people are saying siri is better when they haven't even used it yet, and possibly haven't even used androids version.

as for maps, they both use google maps don't they? exception being that android comes with google nav... the default iphone maps sucks for navigation imo. i use navagon and bought the regional pack for 15.99 works great.

question is... will siri be able to link you to navigon or other nav apps to give directions? or will it just dump you into the maps app? i'm jailbroken right now and can link to navigon from within maps but if i can't do that... well that's gonna suck big time since there is no voice directions in maps... and don't you have to like click next to show you each step in directions? not sure if it ever changed don't use it for that.

Maps and Swype are two reasons why I am keeping my Nokia N8 around when my iPhone comes (2nd Vodafone line for work use).

Swype is, franky, an awesome input method; still has it's downsides but it is fantastic.

Nokia Map's blow out every paid for sat nav system out of the water, it truly truly is a TomTom / Navigon beater, it's incredibly accurate, incredibly fast.... i know, i use it to get me from Germany to Manchester, I also used it in the USA to get me around TN!

I am searching for a satnav app, but I am resigned to the fact I will have to pay for the Navigon or TomTom app.

I think it is funny that people are trying to say Apple Map program is good enough compared to Android navigations.

As I already pointed out Apples Map app is crap compared to Android Map app (the non navigation one). Its completely useless if you need voice navigation at all.

Simple fact is iOS does not have a built in free navigation app. Siri can not solve the fundamental problem there.

You know, even though your a "demi-god" on macrumors, that doesn't mean your opinion is a fact.

You realize google navigation has no offline map solution yet right? I need to pay my carrier $25 a month to use it. When i could use tomtom for a one time fee of $40.

As for android navigation apps, i used sygic and copilot. Copilot's UI was terrible and sygic was great. But sygic also need you to pay after their trial period.

So it is in no way "superior". I would like to save my puny 500mb data plan to use on something else than network assisted mapping.

Well you are required to have a data plan (or at least you are in the US) so that reoccurring cost is not a big deal.
As for off line maps I know with Google you can download multiple 10 by 10 mile blocks and store them on your phone. I know this works for Google Maps app and I want to say it works with the navigation App as well. It just has to be turn on with Google Labs on your phone.
I will test it for the nav app later but I do believe it works since it will pull from that data source.
