Logic Pro, notes, FCX, Aperture, motion, Safari, reminders, iMovie, the tv app, maps, weather, photos - none of these are remotely poor, and these are just off the top of my head.
Safari?! 🤣 Except for Logic Pro, Weather (which lately has been very inaccurate) & Maps (which improves at turtle pace after a decade) the rest are garbage.

Imagine you are a trillion dollar company and you cannot even release such a basic app as Journal in a 12 months + development window. I’d be fired
Or buy a popular weather app, close it down and release an app that is inaccurate and map breaks down most of the time.

Honestly, does ANYONE care about the JOURNAL APP? I’m hoping it just won’t be available at launch, and then they will just quietly abandon it.

Anyone remember CLIPS?
"I don't care about this app and nobody else should since I don't want to see it"

Dear lord, do you have ANY idea how that sounds?

Hint: There are people out there for whom journaling has been a critical part of solving their mental health issues. Just because you don't "get it" doesn't mean your myopia should prevent others from benefitting. And it doesn't even have to be for that - it can be just so that you can remember more details when reminiscing. I remember a lot more about vacations where I've "taken notes" than those where I haven't.

I used to use the Day One Journal App....but then I sometimes felt more forced to create an entry....I let it slip and then after the subscription notice I stopped thinking about it.

Sure, most of what can be done in the Journal App can be done in Notes but I feel like the UI will be different, it may even show a calendar to look back, or have "a year ago, memory moments" similar to how Photos builds those memories around people, places, or time events.

Similarly, I can keep ALL my recipes in Notes. it will work in a way that is acceptable. I can add photos, links, a radio-button ingredient list to check off each as I add them....but I PREFER to use Paprika App and think it is GREAT.

While it may seem FUNNY to some that these apps wont be ready for prime time ios17 release, perhaps the devs are helping in other areas. Perhaps there are features that need to function with parts of iOS that hasn't been fully ironed out. it may NOT just be a slow team failing to get the job done. what seems simple at my work can be bumped due to other priorities that pop up weekly and even daily.

Weather isn't even accurate. Somehow it got even worse since the Dark Sky acquisition in my region as UK data is consistently wrong. whereas Dark Sky was consistently accurate. How did this happen? Reminders is as basic as it gets and Safari is absolutely terrible & threadbare of features compared to the competition - you can't be serious? Maps is improved but still dog sh*t compared to Google Maps. Again you can't be serious?

TV app is a cluttered mess like most of Apple's entertainment apps. iMovie is good for free, but again lacking compared to vastly superior competition. Obviously Apple doesn't want to give you too much so it tramples on the toes of Final Cut... Notes is good too since Apple last gave it a decent refresh. No doubt it will be many years until they turn their attention to it again which is the pattern with their native apps.

Lets not get into the discussion of the neglected Mail app....

With having to wait for features of the new OS to be released after the official launch of said OS, Im thinking they would just be better off on a 2 year cycle. Their major competition is Windows, which almost never gets a big update like macOS. I mean, W10 was supposed to be the final OS...
I agree. Releasing something half ass and only really half done it’s that good IMO. Get it right and release the whole thing!! Not just bits and pieces. iOS has come along way and we have 99% of what we want anyway.

I remember the day when iPhone had the MMS debacle. Talk about a nightmare.

A lot of Apple native apps are s$)/. I know they had issues in the past but they never should have gotten rid of forstal.

People will complain if Apple releases it buggy

People will also complain if Apple doesn't release it with iOS 17.0

Summary: people will complain.
Then we better hope it's near perfect when it does release. Sometimes these "delays" can't even guarantee that.

I'd just like to point out that it's 2023, and you can't change your app icons like you could in Windows 3.1 in 1992. User Interface and User Experience is important. Technology has a way of moving backwards.

Was in no way my intention, but holy MOG that elicited a response. ;-0

There is a third option. People would not complain if Apple released it on time (relative to the announcement) without bugs.

Aperture was the only good one you listed and where is it now? Sorry, Apple apps for the most part, are not feature rich and generally left to die on the vine after intro. I’ve been down the Apple road since 1984, so spare me the first party app accolades.

Safari is excellent. It’s fast, it’s anti fingerprint measures (which I don’t expect you to understand so I won’t go into it) are first class. There is a lot time like for a closed source browser. Weather is accurate for me, but I’m talking about the app, as that’s what the original person said. It’s massively informative. Maps has taken a while, but again it’s not the question. And now it’s excellent. Notes far from garbage, which you would know if you used it.

Don’t use Apple Mail app. Weather is accurate for me, but again - we’re talking about the app and features - Apples weather app is excellent. Maps is also excellent now, regardless of what it was like previously. I wouldn’t use anything Google to follow me around driving all walking. You’re crazy if you want to do that. I also use magic earth.

Accolades? 😂 drama drama. All the Apple apps I mentioned work perfectly well and are feature rich.

Anyone knows if there will be an option in the Journal app to somehow import memories? Knowing Apple I guess not? :-/
