The feature is currently available in 13 U.S. states and Puerto Rico, and it is expected to launch in at least seven more in the future.

To set up the feature, open the Wallet app and tap on the plus sign in the top-right corner. Next, select Driver's License and ID Cards and follow the steps.

Supported States

The following 13 states offer driver's licenses in the Wallet app:The feature is also available in Puerto Rico.

Future States

Apple and local DMV offices have announced that the following U.S. states have signed on to adopt the feature, but no timeframes were disclosed:
  • Connecticut
  • Kentucky
  • Mississippi
  • Oklahoma
  • Utah
  • Arkansas
  • Virginia
Participating Airports

Apple Wallet IDs are accepted at TSA checkpoints in more than 250 airports in the U.S., for domestic travel. Given that Apple Wallet IDs are not accepted by law enforcement, and lack many other use cases, carrying a physical ID is still necessary.

  • Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI)
  • Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA)
  • Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD)
  • Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX)
  • Denver International Airport (DEN)
  • Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL)

  • John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH)
  • San Francisco International Airport (SFO)
  • San Jose Mineta International Airport (SJC)
  • Los Angeles International (LAX)
  • Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL)
  • Des Moines International Airport (DSM)
  • Eastern Iowa Airport (CID)
  • Albuquerque International Sunport (ABQ)
  • Lea County Regional Airport (HOB)
  • Luis Munoz Marin International Airport (SJU)
  • Billings Logan International Airport (BIL)
  • Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport (BZN)
  • Great Falls International Airport (GTF)
  • Missoula International Airport (MSO)
  • Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD)
  • Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW)
  • St. Louis Lambert International Airport (STL)
  • Richmond International Airport (RIC)
  • Norfolk International Airport (ORF)
  • Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport (ROA)
  • Newport News-Williamsburg International Airport (PHF)

Digital Passport

If you live in a state that does not yet offer Apple Wallet IDs, you can now create a Digital ID based on your U.S. passport, and present it at the same participating TSA checkpoints, for age and identity verification purposes during domestic travel. It is not a replacement for a physical passport, and it cannot be used for international travel.

This feature requires iOS 26.1 or watchOS 26.1 and later.

So the cop can take my phone back to his car and plug it in to a cellebrite device and mass extract its contents.
NO Thanks!
maybe read thru this to understand how it works:

Not how that works. Stop spreading lies.
useless for you - that's ok.
"no one accepts" - did you read the article with the list of airports where it is accepted?

We're in the early stages and are taking baby steps, one at a time, you need to have patience
It’s been four years. Pick up the pace already.
Also, in my experience, airports seem to be trying their hardest not to let you use a mobile ID. They’re pushing facial recognition.

In most scenarios involving a physical ID card, cardholders are asked to briefly hand over their ID card to the person checking it. Regarding this iPhone digital ID card feature, are there any scenarios where people who use this feature would be asked to briefly hand their phone over to the person checking the ID, or does the phone never leave the hand of its owner?

No. Handing the phone over wouldn’t provide any information, anyway. The digital ID is just a pretty illustration and the person’s first name and last initial. There’s no other identifying info shown on the screen.

Definitely the most useless thing in my iPhone wallet. Not worth the time to enter it. And who actually is going to risk going to the airport without a physical ID?

Every time. EVERY TIME a digital ID story is posted on MR, someone has to “WARGLE BARGLE I’m not giving my phone to the cops” post.

Just stop all ready. You’re just showing everyone you have no clue what you’re talking about and/or you don’t know how the technology works.

OK, we get it. You don’t want the cops looking at your phone. Most people don’t. Guess what, I don’t hand my phone to the clerk at 7-11 when I buy a Big Gulp and a dog and use Apple Pay, either.

I’ve tried using the digital passport 8 times at different major airports around the country so far and it has never worked. The TSA agent has let me try and every time it fails and they end up asking for my physical ID. Not sure what the issue is
Which airports? I have used it many times at Atlanta, Austin, Chicago O’Hare, Denver, Houston IAH, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and San Francisco and have never had it fail.

It is so much better and easier than pulling a physical ID out of my wallet, handing it to an agent, and trying to get it all back together before putting everything through the X-Ray machine. Before I get to the agent, my wallet, iPhone, and AirPods are all in my bag ready to go through screening. I select my wallet on my watch, pick my ID, tap it on the reader and double click to approve the selected information and pass on through.

No. It is just like Apple Pay, one never hands ones device to anyone.
