Honestly they didn't MAKE you buy it. Its just a new version for people who want it. Only reason I bought it was I still just had a 3G so I was getting it regardless of what it has.

If you dont like what it has to offer, dont buy it. Apple didn't lock you in the store till you paid them...

So what was the selling point of the 3GS from the 3G?

Last time I checked, the 3GS was merely a speed bump from the 3G...

For me, video recording facility. That was the key seller For me. To capture my children growing up!

No one NEEDS a new phone every year...

I'm coming from a 3GS, so everything the 4S has to offer is much welcomed. If I had a 4, I wouldn't bother upgrading...

I can't tell what your point is, aside from being unhappy with Siri. As others have attempted to respond - if you don't like the "beta" phone, don't buy it...

Apparently you don't understand what he word beta means....

Here, i shall give you a definition taken from dictionary.com

We want number 2.

beta test
noun
1.
Psychology . a set of mental tests designed to measure the general intelligence of individuals unable to read and write adequately or at all, used by the U.S. Army in World War I.
2.
Computers . a quality-control technique in which hardware or software is subjected to trial in the environment for which it was designed, usually after debugging by the manufacturer and immediately prior to marketing. Compare alpha test.

Seems like Apple spelled it out quite clearly to me. Of course they are doing the beta post marketing. I don't think you realize just how tough voice AI is. you can reason because of your brain and the trillions of calculations your brain does per second just to keep you alive. your brain isn't just subjected to a 1 or 0, it can be both. Siri can only be a 1 or 0. It has to use insane amounts of algorithms to understand what you are saying and act upon it. The fact that it works as good as it does is amazing.

And how is a phone that is 2x faster with much better graphics and now 64 GB's in size a lame update? What are you expecting? A holographic phone?

Errr its very simple. Don't run and buy a new phone just because. You had an iPhone 4 and you should have stuck with it. Or maybe it would help by not using any kind of slang when talking to Siri.

There really is no point to this post...

Ya, I didnt really see a main point here but in the following posts it seemed to be that there is no reason for an upgrade so I gave my $.02 on that issue.

All aboard the trollercoaster!
Lol.... trollercoaster

Of course it was clearly told by apple that siri was beta..... so if your brother updated and isn't happy that's on him. Of course you didn't update yet you're still bitching about it....... that's silly.

The point is what I've said continually. Yet another company releasing a BETA as a final product using consumers as their source of error reporting and feedback

Look. The point in a discussion board is to DISCUSS. Don't see the reason for attacking a person based on their opinions and I also don't find it appropriate to discriminate against people with different accents.

Furthermore. I'm typing from my iPhone 4 as we speak. As a person who likes to always have the latest tech, one should understand how this can be a bit of a piss take!

I've never once said Im being forced to purchase something. Maybe those people with the rose tinted glasses should take them off and put on some reading glasses instead

And for the record, as an apple consumer with and iPad, iPad 2, 2 Apple Tv's and and iPhone. I have the right to an opinion.

If you don't have anything relevant to say, you should really say anything

And people should really look up the definition of trolling.

Been using Siri for the day and it works great! It will be great help to me out in the field. Being able to set a reminder, make a call, text someone, etc with one hand and not using the keyboard . . . priceless!

If this is Beta, I am impressed. As far as the UK, it was well know that it was not ready yet but they should have it up and running soon according to Apple.

Siri in Beta is still three times better than ANY voice control AI that I have ever seen. It is incredible. I can already see ways they will improve (aside from offering restaurant searches in other countries and additional languages). Like, I'm sure you will eventually be able to Tweet with Siri, and I wouldn't be surprised if, at least by iOS 6, third party developers will be able to have a Siri API to integrate with.

I would say they've gone as far as they can in the lab refining the AI 'brain' of Siri and now need to expose it to real world use so that it can learn. There really is no other way of doing this without releasing it.

It's beta simply because it's not feature complete yet.

I don't see how in a year and a half they couldn't get any partners in the Uk for the location services. We have Yelp over here. What's the problem?

I am just guessing but maybe they are talking about that right now and want to bring it out later when it is optimized and siri is out of beta, otherwise you will come again and complain on how some famous cafe is missing from siri or something along the lines...

My God! Have I hit a nerve with some people on here? Forgive me for airing my grievances. Is this what discussion forums have become? This is more like a place of worship.

For the record, UK location services due 2012.

Licensing issues perhaps, I'm not sure. The data in Yelps UK databases could also be structured differently, or perhaps it's a linguistic thing; natural language parsing is pretty tricky. Or a combination of things.

I understand it's frustrating, I'm in the uk too but theyve not done it just to screw us over I'm sure.

From my experience with testing and using new software in the aircraft business, it does not matter how much preliminary testing gets done, you never know it really works until it is out in the field being used on a daily basis by the masses. So, all of these issues should now be highlighted and fixed with the next version of iOS.
