I can see my keyboard ok in the dark right now. Ok a backlit keyboard would be much clearer.

Some of the keys are harder to make out. Letters are easy. But single quotation mark key is hard to see. As are the function keys.

I have a 20" 2k9 iMac on minimum brightness. I imagine if you had a 24" iMac you'd easily be able to see your keyboard. That thing is bright even at minimum setttings.

I would definitely love a backlit keyboard , but even above that I wish they would make a keyboard and mighty mouse that were black to match the new alum macbooks.

That would be awesome, and maybe it could have black keys to go along with the backlit to make it seem more like a Unibody.

Does anyone know if its possible to switch out the keys on the current Apple keyboards with black keys. I ordered a Apple Wireless keyboard a few days ago and now I'm thinking it would be even more awesome with black keys.

Yes, find an old Black MacBook and get busy.

Presumably that is your best shot for now.

Personally I definitely prefer the laptop keys, just less "effort" to push I guess I'll say... Plus I don't have to lift my hands as much to get to the keys. Nice in that regard I guess.

I would like a backlight, and black keys might be nice, but I am not in the mood to spend the $80+ they will likely charge for one of them.

Oh, and anyone complaining about the white keys getting dirty, I have 2 words for you: Magic Eraser. Those things are downright amazing for the white of my Macbook plus the keys.

First of all, I look at your name and can't help read it as "Sam's Lice."

Other than that—people that bring this point up seem to forget that while you may have control over your lighting at a desk, there are many times when darkness is preferable.
I'm thinking specifically about those users that use Front Row or Plex on their minis and imacs. You're watching a movie, you take your keyboard to the bed to control your computer, and you turn the lights out.
I /do/ agree that a backlight wired keyboard's usefullness would be pretty low, but if they could cram LEDs into the wireless, I'd be all over it.

Thank you, I never thought of my username in that way, but if that's how you wanna read it, by all means :) lol.

I guess that it would be useful for that but, for me, who doesn't use my keyboard for that, it would be useless.

Bring on the backlit desktop keyboard!

I would buy one! Why doesnt apple at least make a desktop keyboard with black keys...that would look sharp!

If Apple made a new keyboard, I would want it to have:

Backlight
Curved design(instead of the flat and tilted look, as amazing as it is)
FireWire & USB ports
Black & White key options

Wireless keyboard with rechargeable battery(charged via FW port) and available with numeric keypad. I want less clutter, not a limited keyboard:p

as for their mouse...

Scroll-wheel that isn't a dirt trap
Physical right/left button

AND

A 3.5" square trackpad with multi touch. With all these new time saving gestures, why not make more money off it? Mouses can be annoying sometimes:mad:

I may be optimistic about this, but I think that these would be very welcome updates. What do you think?

The last thing I want to see is Apple making a desktop keyboard with black keys. The current crop of MacBooks are easily some of the ugliest machines Apple has ever made, primarily due to the ridiculous decision not to use silver or grey coloured keys and a silver display bezel.

I love my MacBook, but I can't help feeling just how much better it would have looked if it was just one colour, like the old MacBook Pro.

Yes, A black mouse with a lit up Logo on it.

I don't mind having a White apple backlit keyboard. Just want a backlit one!!

That would be classy. Pointless, but classy:rolleyes: If I was designing Apple keyboard, there would be 2 models:

Apple Keyboard: It would be bluetooth and a built in battery with 2 months lasting charge, and could be charged and given full speed with USB 2.0 or 3, having ports on the side. It would look like the current keyboard, but would have a curved design like the old "Pro" keyboards. It would ship standard on iMacs, black and white key options. Separate price: $79

Apple Mouse: Mighty Mouse, with no dirt scroll wheel issues. Could be charged through USB2 or 3. Standard on iMac, available in black and white. Separate price: $40

Apple Pro Keyboard: Bluetooth with built in battery for 2 months lasting charge, charged through FW 800 with FW 800 ports on side. Would have curved design from old "Pro" keyboard and number-pad. Keys would be made of aluminum and would be LED backlit. Would ship standard on Mac Pro, black or white anodized, and brushed aluminum key options available. Separate price: $189

Apple Pro Mouse: Apple mouse made of brushed or anodized aluminum, LED backlit :apple:. Charged through FW 800. Standard on Mac Pro, black or white anodized aluminum, and brushed aluminum options. Separate price: $79

and of course...

Apple Trackpad: 3.5" glass trackpad with multi-touch, has 1/4" anodized aluminum bezel. Cost: $149

I'd buy the pro keyboard and mouse with black anodized aluminum keys & mouse... it would look great next to an iMac...

Have you seen this...it's not backlit, but it looks cool

I dont care about the back lit keyboard because I already have one on my MBP and it isnt incredibly helpful. I would however like to see an Apple bluetooth keyboard with a number pad. Like above.

I just keep a logitech g15 hooked up and under my desk, in my keyboard tray. I get the backlighting when I need it, but for the most part, i stick with the apple keyboard.
the new mb keyboard are perfect in my opinion, the razor thin apple keyboards just dont have enough travel to them sometimes.
