For anyone interested how the new M2 MacBook Air compares to the 14" MacBook Pro in terms of thickness, here's a quick comparison I threw together:

mba13m2-vs-mbp14m1.gif

I noticed a difference in weight and portability between my 14" MacBook Pro and my now M1 MacBook Air. It wasn't huge, and the 14" surely isn't difficult to carry around, but I did notice the difference.

Would I notice a difference between the M1 MacBook Air and the M2 MacBook Air? Probably not. But the difference between the 14" MacBook Pro and MacBook Air just got a whole lot bigger.

If you value performance, display quality, speakers, port selection you choose the 14". If you value portability and a completely silent machine you go for the Air.
yes performance is important... often deal with lots of data and who doesnt like nice speakers !

Also bigger battery in the Pro (not entirely sure about longer battery life of M1 Pro vs M2 Air in real life usage, but I would think should be still longer?)

The M2 Air should have slightly longer battery life than the 14" Pro (18 vs 17 hours according to Apple's specs).

I agree but also have to say that the 14" is also very portable and in 90% of the time very silent. I would add battery life to the list of the advantages of the Air. I expect the Air to last 15 hours for day to day productivity, including Internet surfing. The 14" MBP lasts 10-11 hours, so this is a fairly big difference which might matter a lot to some people. I personally prefer the 14" MBP, but if money wasn't an issue, would also get the MBA, just because I love gadgets..

have never heard my 14", pro motion makes a big diff, we have both no diff between portability

How do you choose between the 14" pro and the new air?!
I've been torn between these two. The Air's got a coolness factor to it, but I'm leaning toward the 14" with the Max chip. The power is just no contest between the two. The reason I've been looking to upgrade (from my M1) is for more power and even though the M2 is a speed bump, it doesn't hold a candle to the new Pros. Also the 14" has the 120 Hz high refresh display.

For me the worse thing is that the display will be set with an 1.x scaling, instead of 2x integer scaling. This makes everything just look blurrier and I hate it. I know I can set the scaling to 2x, but then the native resolution will be 1280x832, which is too low.

This. some say they don't need it or notice it which is bs till you have it lol, worth it alone, I go between my 24" iMac and 14" all day, hopefully it comes to iMacs, can't believe the studio display doesn't have it.
