1. The thread title is misleading. This is supposedly one case...it isn't a pattern. Hell, people could follow you home from Best Buy.

2. Who is to say the theives didn't just happen to pull in the parking spot next to them at Blockbuster, see the computer and purse and decide to steal it?
There is no proof in this article they were followed from the Apple store. Hell, they didn't even notice the car following them down several back roads and pulling into the Blockbuster parking lot?

Serves 'em right for leaving the computer out in the open. People will bust your windows open for a dollar bill.

Yes I do believe this a pattern as you call it. I was followed and targeted and do not believe it's just one case. I didn't realize anyone was following me ! Never dawned on me to even think about it! Maybe the Atlanta "case" had there's in the open. Mine was not. And you are right, people will bust your window out nowadays for a buck!

:cool:I just picked 3 days ago my New MBPro 15 from a large retail store at Monterrey Mexico.

Came into the Store to pickup my laptop at 9pm (after work). The sales man gives my purchase. I walk 3 floors down with my expensive MB. Then walk into the subterranuem parking. Myself and the MB (scary)

Just realize that i didnt should be alone in that situation.

Thanks god i dont have any problem. But its a major risk.

BTW: Great Forum, Im new here!
Cheers!

Let's assume it's dark, and instead of taking out a gun, he's pulling out his wallet; you can't tell--you shoot. You wife will be lonely for a few years. Just give it up.

You just keep thinking up scenarios for that novel you're going to write, and I'll just keep throwing 'suspects' face first onto the concrete, just like the last time I got jumped from behind. Or worse, which I'm not going to talk about on a public forum.

I was on the bus home from the Apple Store in Regent Street, i had been snoopying around looking at the macbooks wishing i could afford one - i saw a couple buying an iPod, i think it was a shuffle. So i noticed them when they were in the same bus as me - they were hugging eachother in the bus and had the small apple bag in their hand.

So as they are approaching the Elephant and Castle (an area of London which is very rough) a bunch of black youths come on and start punching the couple and try to take the bag off them. The really sad thing is that the driver never even bothered to stop the bus and deal with this. Also what was really scary is when they were kicked out of the bus by all the passengers, they caught up with the bus on the next stop and pelted the whole bus with stones. It was really scary. I have a rucksack so i normally keep all my shopping inside that. I sometimes do carry my trainers in an apple bag the ones that go on your shoulders but they are a bit see through and people can see the trainers inside!
It is a sad world we live in.

Whenever I buy anything from Apple, I ALWAYS INSIST on picking it up from the back entrance, and when we go we bring a cloth, and make sure nobody sees it from anywhere.

Seriously?

So HUGE cloth = Mac Pro.

Smaller cloth = MB, MBA, or MBP?

If I see someone carrying a cloth with something underneath it, I'd think it was a big purchase. I don't think you're really fooling many people into thinking you didn't buy something.

This completely contradicts of my previous post:

If they MAKE you go out the back, won't thieves get the idea, and just hang around out back?

Exactly. Once thieves know, anybody who's driving away from the back of an Apple store probably bought something.

But as mac-er said, this thread title is misleading. There's no proof that they were followed.

followed home

My mother is over 70 and last year believed she was being followed after shopping at the mall. Near her home is a police substation (looks just like a small office park building) so she just pulled into their parking lot. They followed her in but then must have noticed that there was a really high ratio of police cars in the parking lot and floored it, ended up striking a parked police car and were apprehended a few blocks away when they actually tried to make a run for it. Of course they could have just driven on out of the parking lot as they hadn't committed any crime up til that point. Once again, more proof that most crooks aren't exactly masterminds... The police said other people do the same thing though no other bozo had tried to race out of the parking lot. No matter what way you approach her house you have to make 2-3 turns off of the major streets onto the smaller streets so, from now on, if anyone were to follow her closely she said she'll just circle her block instead of pulling into the driveway. If the person is still following her she'll just drive up to the police substation again. She hasn't even had to circle the block yet so it's not like she's paranoid, just being safe in these screwed up times. Now that she has a safe way home I need to put a new MBP on my Christmas list!!! :D

stolen mac

just order it online it ships to your door for free in a plain brown box with no apple logo. also they were stupid i would have taken the computer and purse into blockbuster.

sorry i didnt read the posts only the first one.....i have also noticed persons walking around usually 2-3 mopes eyeing everyone also.....the Apple store Old Orchard is where i go.....i am disabled and there are handicapped spots 3-5/6 almost in a walking line between the two points and when i bought my first Mac- a mini well that's easy to put in a bag but i brought along an Aldi plastic shopping bag (for non USA this is a cutrate foodstore now that the Omni chains are gone for those who can't make it to a Cub or whatever) and I slipped it into this bag then when I bought my BP12 one of the Apple persons actually called the local PD to tell them I was going from the store to my vehicle....it would have seemed a nice gesture but i made it to my car seconds before the cop did and he turned around and his reaction seemed to be one of thinking i had stolen something....for handicapped unless you have too don't go to Old Orchard I was forced by circumstances to park between to handicapped cars once and Apple stop I thought was going to be seconds that turned into 15-20min i come out and had a $100 ticket....i paid it....and then watched everytime i came up and damnit every time i took the time HALF of all who parked in the handicapped spots were illegal i even asked 1-2 what the hell they were doing "oh i am getting something for my whatever family member" except ILLinois law states you have to have handicapped person with you so they were cheating sob's and I get the damn ticket you'd think that snobbish OO would make more spaces-hell no....and then you have people who go into there car and sit there-they know your waiting but they intentionally sit there to p### you off on the other hand you don't know what goes on i could clearly see the response time is no good and the security this OO has is pitiful and the damn guards aren't even armed! That's BS....no it's up to you to do it and it's too bad Illinois doesn't have concealed carry!

Just another example of why it is better to buy Windows PCs. Nobody in their right mind would steal that crap. :)
