they should've waited to do this tonight, so they would've at least had the updated rMBPs.

BOOM:eek:

They should be using the life like Robots they have in Japan as Sercurity at night and wait for it, wait for it, with laser beams

Just out of curiosity? Are these stolen items even usable. I am not knowledgeable about this at all, but I would think that Apple has something in place to make these garbage except for parts. Is my thinking wrong?

They could have encrypted hard drives, which needs someone technically knowledgable to get rid of. They _could_ have a firmware password, and that makes the machine unusable if you don't have the password.

iOS devices could quite easily be protected so that they are only usable by Apple. If you are a company and want 1,000 iPads for your employees, Apple can deliver 1,000 iPads to you that can only be used by your employees, with no way around it. Obviously Apple can do that for their own use as well.

Do the people involved in these Smash and Grabs ever get caught, or is it just not considered newsworthy when they are?

One was caught a while ago - he used his own car, and the car got stuck in the window. Not exactly the brightest spark.

Since they finished the bridge over I40 the moat has been breached! Any old rabble can run to Streets and vanish into Durham center now.

Its obvious to me that you've never walked across the I-40 pedestrian bridge near Southpoint mall, otherwise you'd know what's on the other side of the bridge (hint: not "Durham center") and how silly that statement is. Have you ever spent much time in the "non-Cary" parts of Durham?

I love the ignorant over-generalization of a city. Especially a part of the city that is absolutely not the "dirty Durham" you clearly think of when Durham is mention.

Precisely my point… I'm afraid my sense of humor is too dry, haha.

Says the guy from Cary, NC. Actually, I'm glad that clueless, boring people still think Durham is sketchy and dangerous. Helps to keep Durham's unique character in tact. Heaven forbid it ever become someplace as bland and diluted as Cary.

I work in Durham. I try to be out of Durham by sunset. And I don't live in Cary. I live close enough to work without living in Cary or Durham.

ETA: This is my Apple store (Southpoint store) of choice because it is up the road from me on US54. Crabtree Valley Mall is PITA in getting to and from.

Second, breaking glass is not always as easy as you think it might be. Glass, just like any other material has strengths and weaknesses, and like any other material requires the right tools and technique to break it. Also, the kind of glass used plays a huge part. Some glass is damn near unbreakable.

Yes, I would have at least expected Apple to upgrade some of their glass panels with ballistic/theft deterrent window films.

One of the cheap upgrades they recommend for houses to irritate thieves, and make it harder to enter without making a lot of noise.

Of course, it would probably keep the entire panel intact, and crush thieves if it fell on them.

That is a shame. There is a lot to do in Durham after dark. If you want to go buy a few guns to feel safe then you should check out The Fed for dinner and take in a ball game then head over to Tyler's for beers. It's a very fun time all around and oddly, I've come out of that town numerous times alive...drunk, but alive. :D

I used to work at ATC, so I did go to Tyler's after work. But we got moved to Erwin Square.
