Unfortunately Apple can't track where these phones are because that would be violating their own terms of service like their AirTags, Apple has explicitly stated that you can't use these devices to track someone.o_O
But they're tracking the stolen phones, I'm sure that stealing a phone violates the terms of service. it's not like they're specifically tracking the people. They'll just make the phones unusable

Super honest, my fear is what’s gonna happen when all this free steal from the store cash goes away. People have habits to feed and lack of easy cash is only going to make them do worse.

Why would they need to track them? Those thieves have probably split up locations of those phones and isn't worth it I am sure they have insurance and they also have the IMEI, serial number, everything to blacklist the phones and make it so they can't activate them. The real victim are those people who are going to be fooled by "brand new" iphone and not know (and I would say the coffee shop too). Hopefully they can get the IMEI uploaded quick so potential buyers can do their own due diligence

Yep, I'm sure they have the IMEI manifest of what iPhones they received in the store and can just reconcile that with whatever stock they have remaining for the blacklist.

Just like any 3rd party sale, should always verify IMEI.

wait till you see the local craiglist have a ton more phones popping up for sale

According to Seattle Coffee Gear manager Eric Marks, the coffee shop is not noticeably adjacent to the Apple Store because of the way that the store is laid out. "I would have never suspected we were adjacent to the Apple Store, how it wraps around I mean," Marks told King 5 News. "So, someone really had to think it out and have access to the mall layout."

Never?

I have access to the mall layout.

I agree, but unfortunately I don't know how well the average person is of the IMEI, anytime I ever hear of someone possibly buying a used phone or device in general I let them know to look up if there is a way to see if something is up with it especially if it is too good to be true.

These thieves are probably going to offload them on the street though I just hope the people know that maybe a couple hundred dollar iPhone that should really be 1k+ falls under the "too good to be true"

I think we all have the same question: what'd that guy's wife do later that night on the way to the grocery store?
2. Later that night on the way to the grocery store my wife and I happened upon a truck pulled over to the side of the road, the driver was giving the passenger really bad CPR. My wife and I jumped into action. I pulled the woman from the truck and my wife began CPR while coaching the other person what to do. 5 minutes-ish later medics arrived and they were able to revive her before loading her into an ambulance. Man, did we ever need a margarita last night.
Here's hoping the young lady we helped is doing fine this morning and the crooks are going to get caught!

Alderwood Mall is in the City of Lynwood, which is a bit under 20 miles north of Seattle. I've been to the location a few times and it is part of the "outdoor annex" and not inside the core mall structure.

Wow, and I thought people coming through the ceiling of the remote stock room in my Apple Store was gutsy.

That was both the best and worst day to be an ICS.
