Still not feeling it

Personally, i still hate the slight slope design. Yes the keyboard slopes, but even then I don't like that. it is only a sad realization of the fact Apple has done that thus making a slope design more plausible. I like the two designs posted above. Those are apple. Exactly what i was looking for. Despite, there being little visible, when i saw that picture it was exactly what was in my mind and hoping for.

Additional thoughts:

-Sure, no optical drive is fine...rarely use it so i am good.
-Hope it is 128 SSD at least..even then i might consider getting a macbook for memory
-multi-touch trackpad the size of an iphone or slightly smaller. i think that would be attractive but probably better suited to macbook and macbook pro revamps so i am prone to get one of those.
-wireless power seems like a big jump in the market which could play out well for apple.
-an actual time machine so i can speed time up 12 hours to know for sure:)

Maybe it's just me, but Safari seems snappier on the MacBookAir.

(sorry, just wanted to be the first)

:D

What is with these multi-touch screens...they're great and all but if you need to type a paper it won't be a-lot fun. Print out a keyboard on a piece of paper, place it on a flat desk and try to type...then you'll see what I mean.

I was hoping for this to be a more inexpensive laptop then the Macbook, but it looks like my hopes were miss placed :(

For people like me who dont touch type (i.e majority of people) it really is no issue. I do not type by feel, i type by sight.
I have a phone which has touch screen AND traditional keyboard, i never use the traditional keyboard.

I just had a patentable idea for input, THANKS!

IF IT HAD A MULTITOUCH SCREEN.... what would stop the screen folding completely over itself and using it as a tablet? the pear-drop shape would fit nicely in the lap. the touch screen doesn't really make sense if you have to reach out to use it. either make it so you can turn it around, or fold on itself. what do you think?

If it's that thin, it looks like only 2 USB ports at most...that sucks! And probably underpowered too....sigh :(

Um... one word: 'Dock'.
'portable' means you aren't going to be carrying around peripheral devices with you that you need tons of ports for.

these needs represent macrumors readers, namely professionals who need powerhouse computers. thats not who this thing would be targeting.

I would disagree. Not every thing in the list is wanted by everyone, but something in the list is probably wanted by everyone.

You want to do iLife, you going to need memory, cpu, harddrive space and maybe an optical drive.
You want to do games, need an intigrated graphics card.
Photoshop: memory and CPU.
Spreadsheets: memory, CPU and optical drive.
etc.
The only thing I can think that you won't need anything in the list, is email and web browsing. If that is all you are going to do, you are going to pay $1500 too much.

my point is simple. you need a powerful/fast computer to do design work, time is money; and this little "girl" ain't going to save you time.

this little skinny "girl" is more for those business or law dudes. Email and MS Word, low power programs.

Interesting.

See, I'm in the market for something to put on my french fries, and this new "MacBook Air" doesn't seem to be either ketchup or vinegar. This girly MacBook Air probably tastes like aluminum or plastic or something. Not exactly up to my manly condiment standards.

Planned leak?

you think wired's source for the pictures was a purposeful leak from apple. realizing our speculations covered most everything possible, it should considering there is over 1000 pages of it, and released this. why? because it shatters our speculations, it shatters our dreams, makes us angry and makes us sad. why do that? so steve tomorrow can spring exactly what we have been waiting for, lift our spirits out of the hell these recent mock ups have spawned from and into heaven where the new macs reside....also, lifting us up in the air..that something is our spirits being risen when we see what we want..pretty clever if i say so.

I'm calling fake cause of the Tiger OS
:cool:yeah I'm kidding
You might be kidding, but that was the first thing that caught my eye. I find it strange that someone "in the know" working on this would still be running Tiger. Could you imagine the look on Steve's face if he saw his brand new product you were working on, but chose to stay away from the brand new operating system? That would be like a Vista level insult. Moreover, Leopard is obviously going to be shipping with this thing, if it is in fact released, so the use of Tiger seems even more odd.

On the opposite side, it is interesting to take note of the Adium icon in the menubar in light of the recent MacBook Air appearance on Adium's logs. It of course is all very very convenient that the Adium Menubar icon is included in these leaded photos after the Adium story has been out for just over a day.

Anyway, we shall see in just abut 12 hours....

The big Nano

As a newcomer I would like to see a rebuild of the NANO... Big sreen 12-13".. big hard drive.. lots of memory.. qwerty keyboard.. and a Sreamin Touch Screen.......

What more could you ask in a laptop except lots of interface ports.

I wish... my dream is... they'd target me, sitting in my half-desk these schools see fit to bolt to the floor in classrooms, trying to take notes with my macbook pro balanced on my knee and my wacom graphics tablet on the desk. Please, apple, do something for us students... pretty please?

My realistic expectations are that Apple will:
• Blow our minds with technical feats previously believed impractical.
• Astound our senses with a design that's stylish and attractive yet somewhat consistent.
• Simplify something to the chagrin of a few power users who will complain endlessly (like me ;) )
• Boggle our minds with some individual utterly-stupid restriction on something that will be changed within the year. (I got my custom ringtones, didn't I?)
• Make me wish that, yet again, I had bought Apple stock BEFORE the Keynote instead of after.
• Make us all think "Why didn't I think of that?"
• Show the rumor mills to be 1/3 part true, 1/3 part misguided unimaginatism, and 1/3 complete baloney.

Here's to you Apple, I hope I keep my grades up high enough to even apply to you one day :)

wow, no more amphetamines and Jolt for you tonight my friend.

Anyone work for a company that could take advantage of a text input patent?

YES!! i got all bases covered, sneak outs to the computer lab for coverage, bathroom breaks to check sms updates, its all planned out and under control, 2morrow...DA DAY OF MY LIFE...i think

Haha I have a class at 9:35 then one at 12:45... so I'm set! No using up SMS for me!

Maybe the Air part of the Design is the fact that he is removing the physical Ethernet plug from the computer. Meaning that you got all of your connections from the air. Including those induction chargers like the Splashboard. I'd still be afraid to sit around one of those things. I like my nads, and would rather them stay uncooked.

Or maybe it means that you can get itunes in an airplane since he's worked out deals with in-flight phone companies?

Or maybe the "air" part of the statement is that wireless 3G or Edge is available built into the OS and functionality of the new notebook by a new deal brokered with AT&T. The ubiquity of the internet of the iPhone on a notebook.

I'm just throwing everything out there I can possibly think of, so if it happens, I can say "I told you so".

You should really work on that. You can speed up your typing speed at least 3 fold if you learn to touch type.

I'm pretty speedy though, i'm a programmer and i have been typing like this since 1982, that said I'm currently suffering from RSI so I'm down to one hand for a while!

Would everyone here please remember...

Until Mr. Jobs pulls one of these suckers out of his hat/pocket/whatever, everything we see here IS A MOCKUP. Sorry to raise my voice like that but the way so many of us are talking on here is ridiculous. I was just reading a comment on page 5 or 6 of this listing and this person was going on about how this is the ultimate and a sign of our future tech. It just boggles the mind the way some of us (and yes I count myself among the mac uber-geeks) are going on about these clearly admitted mockups. I really want there to be something small and light and for me at least, it doesn't even have to be that powerful because I'll save my school related music production stuff for my C2E iMac. I need something to replace the powerbook G4 that I am typing this on so that I can give this to my wife and we can give her mother my old 800MHz G3 iBook. Let's try and be a bit more realistic ok people? I can only imagine what will happen if a new ultra-slim laptop is not announced. How many people who were writing things based on these mockups will talk about class action suits against Apple for not releasing what it promised?:D Let's just wait and see what happens tomorrow and hope for the best. See you all tomorrow night.:)

you can't completely rule out some advance in wifi with this computer that would eliminate ethernet necessity

i just am hoping to cut down on cords altogether, so an external optical drive and an ethernet cord is not appealing

Yes, like a wifi port that could connect to a wired ethernet line, right?
I did make mention of USB to Ethernet earlier.

Still, that wouldn't be possible in a situation without USB ports.

I've actually thought about that a lot, lately... with the lack of an optical drive, I wonder if Apple will start selling their software either via the Apple Store (downloads) or on flash drives? Sounds good to me... 1 flash drive as opposed to 8 DVD's (Final Cut Pro?)

Heh, yeah that should only add $200 to the cost of the software. Perfect!
