#1: no external indicator for messages, etc. Why couldn't they include a tiny little led

#2: no way to keep call volume on, but vibrate for emails, texts etc without silencing ringer as well

#3: no way to silence everything except for alarms (without vibration either) without putting the phone in airplane mode

Anyone else have some other pretty big annoyances?

I'm kinda shocked that #2/#3 can't be done considering they are purely software issues. I understand apple trying to keep everything simple, but some of their functions are a little too simple that it leads to incompleteness

For #3, can't you put the phone into silent mode, and then in the Sound settings just turn off vibrate? That way, your alarm will still sound off at whatever volume you have, but everything else will be silent...

yeah, I guess for number 3, I can do that, but it just seems like there should be an option to select silence everything except alarm.

As for the notification light, I'm used to being able to look at my phone if I haven't used it in a while, seeing a flashing led, knowing that I have some type of email sms etc. And it flashes only immediately and then doesn't flash again. This doesn't help if your phone is in your pocket, and u want to pull it out quickly to see if you have new messages.

You knew this before you made that jump, so that's something you just got to deal with.

You can make a silent tone, sync with iTunes, then select the silent tone under sounds(for email and text). Now it will only vibrate. You can always change it back to an audible tone.

iOS had LED notifications

1. You can put on Flash LED.

Settings - Accessibility - Scroll down: Flash LED

I keep seeing this but honestly its not the same. I love the iphone much more than the droids that I've come from and although everyone belittles the led on droids it really is a nice feature.

I also really miss the back button. Way more useful than i anticipated.

But that's it... I'm finding everything else to be much better.

My biggest annoyance is that there's no icon in the menu bar that tells you that you have a notification.

It hasn't bothered me that much, to be honest - but, it would be nice.

An external LED notification is something that Apple just won't ever put in. It is seen as ruining the exterior aesthetic of the phone. I'm surprised they even put the LED flash on the phone. The UI is designed to get out of the way, and a flashing multicolor light is seen as too distracting for an Apple design. I used to think I wanted an LED until I owned a phone that had one, I have to admit after a week or two of not having one, you'll start thinking it's a blessing. There's not this blinking you catch out of the corner of your eye and driving you crazy slowly.

as everyone said, LED is on the back BUT i would like a small one up front too.

When I made a silent ring tone, it only lists it as an option for calls, not texts or emails...whats up what that?

what do you mean huge difference between alerts and notifications

The LED alerts on iOS5 just give you a flashing alerts while receiving an incoming call. Notifications flash as a reminder for any missed calls, etc. LED alerts don't do that, it was just implemented to help the hearing impaired.

Did you scroll all the way down? Or you can just click "none". LOL @ I just noticed that.

#1, Just hit either the home button or the power button and check the list to see if there's any missed events such as a call or text message.
#2, Create a silent ringtone for calls
#3, Flip the silent switch, the alarm will still come on.

I agree. Sometimes I know there is a notification waiting for me but don't feel like checking it at the time. Seeing that led flash would make me feel guilty lol.
