How Satisfied are you with the 4th Gen ATV?

No way to browse new music or albums, just via radio stations ... When I look for eg. Coldplay, it brings me all sorts of radio stations , and not even the first song is by them .. Where is search by artist/album , where is 1min preview , where is related ?? Total fail.

I've no major issues with the ATV to be honest. They are improving it slowly but surely with updates. I really don't get the hate for the Siri remote though. I've got hands like pit shovels, but I manage just fine. I'm in the habit now of picking up the remote by its middle, I let my thumb dip into the Siri buttons recess, if it's on the left side I know if I've got it the right way up without looking.

My biggest issue with the remote is scrolling through my movies, unless I am very careful it will move from "Unwatched" to "All" or to "By Genre" or vice versa. And when this happens and you return to the listing type you actually want you are back at the start of the list again. Very, very, annoying when you have a long list of movies ...

I agree, but I consider that a failure of the home-sharing UI, not the remote hardware.

This:

* The physically symmetric remote. There is no substantial physical cue for feeling the difference between the remote being held right side up vs. upside down by touch. This leads to frequently experiencing an exit to the home screen when a pause was intended.

Was the first thing I thought about when reading the header, and you had it as your first point. Totally agree on that at least.

Good thing the Remote.app for iOS has been updated for controlling and entering text on the Apple TV.

I wish Apple took the time to add support for a physical keyboard as was on the Apple TV 3.
The remote is a very cool concept but poor industrial design, I agree especially in a dark room it's hard to tell if you have it posting the correct way.

I would honestly love to see this some to fruition. It's a PITA that each time I download a new entertainment app, I have to authenticate it via my cable subscription. I would love to be able to just enter my creditals once, then each subsequent app I download pulls in said information.

I know that Netflix/Hulu/HBONOW/Showtime are different beasts in that you can simply subscribe to their apps without a cable subscription. But for the vast majority of apps that are tied back to your cable account, it would certainly be nice to have a universal login for those.
Different apps, so not really a beast.

I hate that I couldn't log in to Game Center since thursday , hence Skylanders and Disney and Plastic Sordiers didn't work, hence I had to reset Atv4, hence I had to reinstall and log in everything again , hence we lost our progress on much gamrs.

App approach way too frustrating. Every time want to start using a TV app for example have to be a subscriber to some TV provider. If I already have a cable or satellite service why would I need this?
Going back to store after holidays.

The benefit is that you can replace one of those cable boxes that your are renting and have the same shows available. Another is that you can take it on the road and be able to watch programming if you have a wifi connection.

Personally, I have cable for Internet, but it is cheaper if I package it together with a piece of junk standard def cable box and standard cable with HBO. However, with the AppleTV, I can install the network and cable apps and get them in HD.

As someone else said you can use it to replace one or more STB's that you rent. If you only have 1 STB and it is free then it would not be helpful. In my case with the help of HDHomeRun Turners and the Channels App (on Verizon FIOS) I was able to return all of my STB's (not a good option for TWC Customers).

anyone know if there is a way to use an app for Brighthouse TV without STB?

I know the Apple TV 4 has this function, but I've never had to use it. I guess if an App had an error it might be useful but I haven't needed it so far.

I find it to be a requirement to refresh apps. For example, YouTube...in a single "session" several channels I subscribe to might add a video. YouTube or Apple needs to implement a refresh button. Maybe it's there and I don't know how to do it.

This is a problem for some slower updating apps, like Hulu and Crunchyroll if you don't exit them for days on end. However what I find is an inadvertent solution is apps randomly refreshing in the background, flip side to that is multitasking isn't useful if the apps can't stay suspended.

Also use it when Apples Computers app breaks. On occasion it won't play, just goes back to the menu after asking me to resume play or start from the beginning.

Meh, I'm getting used to the remote. I can tell the difference between the smooth bottom half and the trackpad top with more friction. Occasionally, I have a little trouble scrolling down to another row but not enough to "hate" it. Everything new has a learning curve and I don't have a problem with learning curves if it leads to something better than what I had. My only disappointments are the cord-cutting content not happening yet and the current lack of HomeKit apps. But I'm sure that will come in time.

There are some Music apps / Relax etc. , I stumbled upon, that can utilize Philips Hue and likes. I don't know their names. I also like the remote more and more now that I'm getting used to it.

The remote is definitely the high point of the experience.

I wish inertial scrolling was faster. Scrolling through long folders to get to the end of a list is a major annoyance. Makes me long for the days when I had a click wheel.

Remote would be best remote/gamepad, if it had one cross on the bottom, and volume buttons customizable.

I have to be missing something, but is there a way to use dictation to search on YouTube and apps that have a text field?

After awhile, the all to bright interface is making me squint constantly. Any one else find the new UI a bit bright? I hope Apple updates it to be less blinding.
