Jailbreaks/IOS Hacks
so winocm has triple booted iOS 5.1, 6.1.3, and 7.0.6 on an iPad 2. looks like things might get interesting soon, especially if he decides to release a tool...

What's triple booted?

It'd be great to be able to reinstall & boot back to iOS5.1.1 to be able to use Quasar, even if it'd only be possible on an iPad 3, newer iPad models having arrived with iOS6/7...

----------

Oh cool.
Nope, just wasn't sure exactly what he meant.
Wouldn't 3 different ios versions take triple the amount of storage to install and run?

It would, but on a 64GB device, there'd still a lot of storage be left.

if it were the newest iPad air it be something to look forward to, I am sure alot of people already got rid of theirs. So for anyone with anything newer than an iPad 2 it wouldn't really be worth buying an iPad 2 over again.

ipad 2 is an a5 device… also used by iPad mini, iPhone 4s, iPod touch 5th gen, and then theres a5x on iPad 3rd gen. you are forgetting that a5 does not have a boot rom exploit. f it was an iPad 1 with an a4 chip, it wouldn't be a big deal. this is an iPad 2. and also these versions of iOS are unsigned...

He's got skills reminds me of Android guys who port ROMs all the time. In this case its only for show and tell. I get it he's going to work for Apple and he has skills. Great... probably headed for the cub farm to type code all day. Probably wont get the recognition he used to get hacking for us but it will pay better.

But he probably had the blobs saved? He didn't say it was a new device did he?

Which just means its using the iBoot exploit, which isn't going to be released (especially 'soon'). The only way any of this could be considered 'very interesting' is if the iBoot exploit leads to a bootrom exploit so that something like this can be released.

Otherwise this is just another teaser / show off video that definitely demonstrate what winocm can do but in no way will the public ever get to use it.

Of course the iBoot exploit might get patched, in which case they could release it, but then a) something like this wouldn't work on the new devices running ios 8, and b) you'd still need blobs saved to achieve something like this. Do the new A7 devices even use blobs anymore?

Wowz! I want iOS5 so that I can run Quasar!!

Exactly! This would be so awesome on so many levels. All outdated jailbreak tweaks that are loved and not updated could be used again on my ipad and/or 4s phone. I wonder if this will work on the 5s (please tell me it will, I would love this!).

You really expect to run anything besides iOS 7 on your 5S or you're joking?

I don't know, they sent monkeys into space in the 60s when we were still using small am radios to get our news, so i don't think its a terrible stretch that some dude will figure out how to do it. Anything is possible. If you had asked me as a teenager if all the technology that is around today would be available I would have thought no way. Now, even my kids all know how to set up ipods, etc. and its not rocket science.

Yes, but there needs to specifically be a version of iOS made for each device. The only version of iOS ever made by Apple for the iPhone 5s was iOS 7 (and now onwards), so it's impossible.

I know it's more technical, but I can run older/newer programs/operating systems on my new computer, I can swap out parts on my vehicles for newer/older/different types, so I'm not sure why it couldn't/can't be done. Just because I don't know the specifics, doesn't mean it can't be done.

Everything that is considered impossible, seems to have a way to be done eventually.
