I've posted in the "What I don't miss about windows" and "Things I hate about Mac" threads but haven't made it here until just now. The reason I like Mac isn't merely the absence of Windows...

Where do I begin?

Spaces - I can have a dozen things open without contending with a hodgepodge of overlapping windows.

Menu Bar - with very few exceptions, notably gimp and neooffice, applications adhere to the Mac rule that one menu bar is on the screen rather than one menu bar per open window. Nice and uncluttered.

Darwin - I like it so much I don't miss Linux

Time Machine - this one isn't perfect but it's the first truely seamless backup solution I've seen.

Installing programs by dragging them to Applications. Uninstalling them by dragging them to the trash.

Reliable printing - every time - no bull feces - no excuses - it just works

I've only been a mac convert for about a week, but I have to say that one of the first things I love is the two-fingered scrolling: ingenious!

+1 for 2-finger scrolling!

I also love the 3-finger swipe for FW & BK buttons, but my MBP is a little older, so I don't have this feature.

Sometimes it's the little things I appreciate, like being able to drag documents to my dock, to force them to open with a program other than the default. I especially love this with the FTP program I use (Yummy) that allows me to upload to a server (with auto-routing) by dragging stuff to the dock.

Another little thing I love is the value. I know, they're expensive. But I actually use every app in the iLife suite, even GarageBand. Add comparable apps, plus Adobe Acrobat, to a PC, and you're probably looking at a more expensive machine. Of course, if iPhoto is the only iLife app you're running, you're probably not seeing the same value that I am.

Time Machine rocks my world. I know, it's just a backup app. I can appreciate that. But it's so simple that we're seeing a LOT of people backup that otherwise probably wouldn't. That's always a good thing. Of course, the best part of Time Machine is that I'll be able to use my backup to set up my next system. Talk about a major league time and effort saver! Restoring my documents, installing my programs, building my playlists, setting up all my system preferences... While I sleep? Wow. Just wow.

I appreciate that I don't see little yellow bubbles in the bottom-right corner every day, warning me that I don't have automatic updates enabled or have unused items on my desktop.

More than anything, it's the speed. I used to buy pretty heavy duty Windows machines. Spent anywhere from $2k - $5k on them, to get the best possible performance. I kept them as clean as possible by religiously running RegSupreme, Hitman Pro, a high-end defrag utility (forget the name), and Ccleaner. Despite all this work, and probably because I'm a shareware/freeware junkie, my systems always seemed to slow down within a month or two. By month 6, I wasn't out shopping for a new computer, but I was anxious for time to pass quickly so I could justify a new one. 1.5 years into Mac Pro ownership, this thing is still as fast as it was the day I took it out of the box. I'm dreading the day I have to replace this thing because of my addiction to always running the latest/greatest high-end apps.

The *thing* I love most is my Macs unconditional love for me, no matter what!

I know this to be fact 'cos when I log into my iMac after having spent time on a Windows PC, instead of chuckin' a kernel-mental, crashin' an' spittin' out DVD discs all over the place, my iMac acts like nothin' has happened an' I'm totally blown out at how everythin' looks and works ... just as if it was the very first time, all over again .... :D

I gotta get out mo'

Resell value

If you buy a PC, the resell value drops like a brand new (ford) truck just driven off the lot. If you buy a mac, it is like getting a good deal on a ferrari... you can sell it for more then you paid months after you buy it!

Example: just sold my ORIGINAL iphone on ebay for $450. The buyer knew it was not the 3G model. I bought the phone for $400 last september. Try that with a Trio!

Agreed, that's what justifies some of Apple's higher prices is the fantastic resale value that you could never get on a common Wintel PC.

What I also love about Macs are the haters. Those funny little Windows users that can't stand that the Mac is better than anything they have. This guy on Notebook review said he just bought the top of the line Alienware PC notebook and the hinges broke right away. This is why you can't compare only specs.

I love using a PC and realising how much better the Mac is. I also love the comments other people use when they see my BlackBook in action :)
