What I would like to see is a connected touch, maybe some deal with at&t/t-mobile/verizon thats extremely cheap I'm talking 5-10 bucks a month for data only. Something to cruise the net/check weather etc that isnt horribly expensive and keeps the touch connected online cos finding wifi (at least for me) sucks. The other thing I'd like is a speaker built into the touch something akin to the iPhones speaker that I can listen to tunes and not have the headphones on all the time.

It would be nice if the Touch was a full-featured WiFi-only phone, with some limited ability to also be a true cellphone. Maybe something like it uses the cellular network for voice, but when WiFi is available, you get data too.

The simple bottom line is that I'm not about to drop $80/month for an iPhone, particularly since I get a Blackberry for free through my employer, which means that my personal cellphone is getting used or carried less and less (I'm debating dropping it entirely).

Plus on international trips with the Blackberry using voice & data heavily, I've already gotten hit with the $1500 phone bill "gotcha". Granted, I'm far, far less likely to make ~5 hours of international phone calls on my personal phone in a month, but I'm simply not going to tolerate that magnitude of service cost for mere personal use.

However, the reality is that the technology potential is highly divergent. I also like the general idea of being able to skip the laptop and hook right into a display for making presentations...and if you're going to do that, then having an LED laser built in would be a nice touch...so long as the iPod doesn't end up being physically tethered (and thus, the presenter is unable to walk around, point at screen with LED laser, etc). As such, I see the "Touch Presenter" to be a very narrow niche product and thus, not likely.

... maybe put in a razor blade for shaving and a james bond style shocking prong thingy... lol, a laser would be cool... but then there are those jerks in highschool who think it's cool to shine a laser in your eyes...

Hey I'm one of those jerks in high school! LOL I think it would be awesome if it had an auto update for all of the Internet apps. So when you first turn it on and it's connected to wifi It would update chess with friends and facebook and mail automatically.

Ability to turn of the screen on video podcasts and still have the audio play.

I agree for any video file though...

My top request for the next gen touch:

1. Much BETTER battery life- use some of that new tech from the 17" macbook pro

2. Camera - 3mp w/ autofocus

3. Copy/Paste - should have been there from the beginning....

4. Push - to finally work...

I would really like a scratch resistant back like the first gen iPhone but I know that won't happen...

I'm pretty happy with my 32 GB 2G Ipod touch as it is- probably the only thing that would make want to upgrade any time soon would be vastly improved RAM so that multiple apps could run simultaneously etc. I think lots could be improved via firmware updates though. Top of the list for me would be iCal syncing with other iPod apps. Not too bothered about a camera- never use the 2MP one on my phone- but it would be nice to have for use with Evernote.

BTW iParis, maybe I'm misunderstanding you re: external drive, but there are lots of apps that can store files, inc. iWork ones (no editing though- not sure how well that would work on the small screen anyway). I use Files Lite.

Oh, and re: GPS- can anyone explain to me what having this would enable compared to the existing location detector in the iPod Touch? I've never used a GPS device.

The emo Touch with built-in razor :)

And then there are those jerks in high school who think it's cool to use the razor for other things other than shaving aka as stabbing a classmate or self harm. :p : P

Great when listening to that mind-numbing kid with guitar and a whinge music :)

I'd like to see bluetooth connectivity and and have the external speaker beep on calendar alerts whether headphones are plugged in or not.

4 inch screen in the same form factor.

better battery life for that

cheaper

A sim card mobile network device that plugs into 30 pin connector for 3g Internet connections.
Cut and paste
A way to upload pictures from your iPod touch to forums like this without using a pc.

definetley

i would love to just have data on my touch, after all, the only reason i would get an iphone would be for web browsing

I'm sure something could be arranged eventually for the touch because as much as I love the touch a simple basic data plan would be nice just to check weather, stocks etc.

I at least hope that if they if they upgrade the battery that software or something be released to help us 2Gs.

Ever heard of the iPhone SDK?
How about sharks with fricken laser beams (and a million dollars)?

I don't think that is what he means by open source. It would be nice if we could install apps without needing it to be ok'd by apple first. Imagine if microsoft decided that we could no longer install apps on our desktop computers without going through their store to buy and install them? People would be outraged yet somehow when apple does it everyone rolls over and the fanboys actually defend it. It's a joke.

As for what I'd like to see, it would be nice if apple loosened it's apron strings a little and allowed such things as firefox into the app store...let us decide if we need it. Oh yea and like every other half way decent pmp/smart phone I think we deserve flash and copy paste. Enough already with the excuses.

Want to see
Google Street View and Google map sharing
copy and paste support
Don't want to see
Bluetooth would be nice, but then there's dock connector BT adaptors that can be used for connecting to BT headphones.
