NGL, pretty big fan of these ! can charge AirPods on their own, reverse wirelessly charge, manage charging % to run down the internal battery and occasionally juice the external interchangeably and manage thermals, and if you have a newer USB-c iPhone it extends lighting charging functionality.

..I'm really surprised they didn't just replace the lightning version when they discontinued it in the fall last year

I dont $99 love it, that strikes me as overpriced (what Apple accessory isn't sadly) but it's still pretty great and gets crapped on a lot unfairly. Much more versatile than the previous smart battery silicone cases they released for prior models.

I imagine they'd release a new model when the iPhone 16 comes out... well, that's what I'm hoping for, at least. 🤞

That would be nice. But why couldn’t they do it last year? Lol

Weird also that keyboard and mice are still lightning as is the yet to be updated AirPods Max gen1

I settled on buying one from Anker for my summer vacation. I wasn’t sure if Apple would release a USB-C version anytime soon.

It’d be awesome if they brought this back. I have a few from other brands but they all get hot when charging my phone wirelessly, and I liked how the Apple version worked more as a battery extender.

Being smaller battery capacity with all the other electronic crap crammed in them, is actually a bit of a benefit for ‘once a day’ / situational use : they re charge up pretty quickly and they charge the device quick too at 7.5w wireless

I use mine a lot, and while I don’t need a new one, my wife and son want one. All my non techy friends all love it when they see it, or borrow mine. It’s a really good battery pack, that also is my wireless charger when I’m travelling.

If Apple brings it back, I’d love Watch charging capability.

I’m gonna need Apple to bring this back with USBC and hopefully bigger capacity before I get my new iPhone. Chop chop

Thankfully, it still works for the iPhone 16 Pro although I don’t see it listed anywhere in settings.
That’s great it still works if you already have one, but I’m trying to move everything over to usbc so I’m going to hold out buying one.

Yes, it's likely. Apple may release a MagSafe battery pack with USB-C since they’re moving towards that standard. We'll have to wait and see!

I was talking about in settings I didn’t see the option (like before) to turn off charge to only 90%. I will definitely buy a new pack of Apple releases a new one. I don’t think they will, unfortunately.

I don't think Apple will release a new version with USB-C sadly because they would have done it already I think. Changing from lighting to USB-C is an easy change for a battery pack so for Apple to not release one yet especially with the new iPhones being released already I feel that means it's not going to happen.

These are some great options and I'm grabbing one and probably the Anker before my international trip next month. My 16 Pro Max is already heavy enough but I love battery packs when hiking or traveling.

I don't think Apple will release a new battery pack anytime soon, possibly due to EU DMA issues. As far as I know, Apple's MagSafe battery is the only one that supports showing the charge status on the iPhone. I wouldn't be surprised if Apple is concerned the EU might not be happy about that if they released a new battery pack.

They may be doing a bigger redesign of the pack because originally the iPhone Mini dictated the size of the pack, so with the Mini being discontinued Apple may be taking the opportunity to make it bigger and possibly doing other tweaks. And/or Apple may simply be focusing on other things.

DMA issues could also be a barrier.

Apple’s battery pack did have some advantages though, like the mentioned reverse charging and battery status through software.

Also, we thought the full size HomePod was dead for 2 years and they randomly brought it back.

Oh and one more thing, the iPhone 16 enables 25W MagSafe charging. So it would be great to get a power bank capable of that.

Long pressing on the low battery mode button in control center while the pack is attached gives you this option.

This! I'm waiting out on a 25W MagSafe bank to replace my 7.5w banks. A compact 5000mah one would be perfect for me. I have a larger wired bank whenever I need to do real charging but a small wireless bank is perfect for on the go, especially while traveling. If it could output 25W I would only need to slap it on for 15-30 min.
