I bought this UGreen 5000mAh MagSafe power bank recently, at the time it was just £16. If/when they make slimmer 10,000mAh power banks I may swap.

Just curious, do you keep the battery on your phone all the time (which is why you need it slim)?

No, I just have it for when I'm out travelling for the day, catching the train etc. I keep it separate from my phone until my phones battery is getting low but then it might stay connected and in my pocket so I want it as slim as I can. A single charge of my phone is all I need from any power bank.

Finally they announce a new MagSafe Battery today at the unveiling. Wild that this is the thing I’m most excited about today, but here we are.

It looks like it may only be for the air though, based off the dimensions?

I guess could awakardly hang off the back and maybe people will make cases to accommodate that, but not sure? Unless theyre also making it for the regular and Pro models.

in any case, good to see it return in some form.

According to the listing on the Apple Store website it’s only compatible with the Air. 🤨

but the Air is the most power efficient and biggest battery ever. Why would it need this battery pack? :p

I think pro has the best battery life* ever. But how does 17 pro fare is what I wonder.

Nowhere did Apple say that it had the biggest battery, they just said it has all-day battery life. And looking at their own metrics it should have the same battery life as the old 16 Pro.
maybe im mixing up models :p

anyways, I'm busting out my lightning MagSafe battery pack today and using it with my 16+

its been a drawer for a little bit, but I loved the thing paired with my 13 mini (fit the phone back perfectly). I found two OEM ones with good battery health and lightly used for like $60 something a year and a half ago. Finding non fake MagSafe battery packs is a struggle, so much garbage on eBay

..I hope the a non-air battery pack comes out eventually, all models deserve the option!

What's the negative with charging this with a Lightening cord and putting on the back of an iPhone 16 (soon to be 17)? What am I missing? I have one (currently own a iphone14) and was planning on doing this.

Right - that's my question here.
Why can't you use a lightning cord to charge it and use it with an iPhone 16 or iphone 17?

do we know the dimensions of the new apple magsafe battery? It just seems to say ‘slim’ on the apple store website and app. Wanted to compare with alternatives from eg anker. It wouldn’t be for every day, just longer use so if the anker isn’t much thicker it might be a better option at 5000mah - assuming the apple one is lower.

or was the old apple magsafe more effective at charging without wasting battery than third party options?

Good questions. It's curious that there are very little specs in the product page. Just 12W wireless charging and up to 65% recharge for the Air--no dimensions, weight, or mAh (or Wh).

Dimensions/weight will come out eventually once people get their hands on it. And I suppose one could estimate mAh by seeing how much charge % is delivered to the Air by a 5000 mAh wireless battery, and then calculating what the mAh should be to get to 65%. But as you suggested, there might be differences in efficiency since Apple's battery is first party and presumably more deeply integrated. But also I guess mAh isn't ultimately important. What matters is how much battery percentage it can deliver compared to similar size/weight wireless batteries.

You can always buy a 3rd party magsafe charger by Anker, Belkin, Mophie but the Apple Magsafe Air battery matches the Air profile and can also off load / charge other devices with the built in bi-directional USB-C port.

Hopefully all my accessories arrive at the same time as the Air.
