I was planning on selling my 13" MacBook Pro and replacing it with the 14" MacBook Pro. No way in hell am I doing that now. Here is why after having both now:

1. The 13" is thin and light. I KNOW the specs of the 14" say it isn't that much thicker and heavier, but, damn it, when I have them both, it just doesn't feel like that. The 13" just feels SO MUCH more portable than the 14".

2. Battery life on the 14" is trash compared to the 13". I KNOW the specs say it shouldn't be that much difference, but IT IS. My 13" is lasting HOURS longer than the 14".

3. No notch. It just is what it is. I can't stop seeing it.

4. Temperatures. Again, I KNOW the 14" shouldn't be getting hot, but damn it, IT IS. I can feel the heat randomly ramp up randomly during normal use. This just DOES NOT HAPPEN on the 13".

5. Touchbar is gone. I know some people hate it. I generally prefer it being there.

That said, I am keeping both.... because the 14" is crushing the 13" in regard to performance when I have CPU and GPU intensive work. It just is what it is. But the 13" will be my primary portable/casual use MacBook.

So, my take away is this, it is probably going to be a LONG TIME until Apple releases another MacBook Pro that checks all these boxes. (5 will never be checked again). I just don't see the notch going away for AT LEAST 3 generations. Battery life and heat and are going to be hard for them to ever match the 13" again because people are only going to be demanding more performance from here on out.

So, just think about tossing your 13", because it may be a long time to find such a damn good MacBook again.

Like I said, I am keeping both for different use cases. It kind of annoys me because I was planning on selling the 13" for over $1000, now I have to come up with that. This is just an FYI for people who can't afford both and really need to consider these points.
Well it seems as if money is the primary reasoning here. Either grind harder in life to get what you want or decide on the cheaper model. All that extra drivel doesn’t help anyone else.

I don't want to go into off-topic, but "grind harder in life"? That's like.... such a wrong view to have, when half of it is luck (in which country you're born, what starting point, how healthy you are, etc.) Please don't assume that if someone can't afford something, it's because they are not trying hard enough.

What specs are you referring to? If you go to https://www.apple.com/mac/compare/ and compare 13” and 14” MBP, under Battery, for wireless web it states up to 17 hours for 13” and 11 hours for 14” so this should have come as no surprise to you or anyone else ordering it.

Because it is not even matching the specs bro. I am getting MAYBE 7-8 hours on 14", whereas I am legit getting like 20 hours on the 13" some days. It's a massive difference.

I experience none of those issues, except for the notch and the touchbar, which I personally never used.

I own both too. For me, I have to disagree about the battery life, but not everyone does the same things so that can make a difference. I am getting fantastic battery life on my 14". I do have the base model though. I am still at 42% and I got two full work days in without a charge. I am a lighter user than some though. I haven't noticed anything about the temperatures yet. I do think I will keep my 13" Pro though. It is nice to own both.

That’s massive alright. Perhaps you might have a defective battery? If it’s not a custom config, you should be able to get a replacement fairly soon.

you're not reading the tech specs correctly then. the MBP 14" indicates only 11 hours of wireless web. MBP 13" is 17 hours of wireless web.

considering that the M1 MBP 13" is the last to have touchbar, resale value could go up because of that reason. worth to hold the MBP 13" especially since it has phenomenal battery life.

This thread is bait. As an M1 MBA owner it fits all my needs, why would I want the new MBP unless the extra horsepower is needed. It’s like owning a sports car and just driving it at city speed limits only to compensate by demonstrating to the world. Most people’s work will do fine with the MBA or 2020 MBP, these future proof people are just chasing an unrealized dream.

Prior to the MBA I had 8GB RAM and it was fine before that it was 4GB. I went 16GB this time around as I am not planning on upgrading for the next 5-10 years. Had I gone with the 32GB most of that power potential would go unrealized. I can afford it but I prefer to purchase what fits my needs not chasing some future goal.

Not what they said. Most of this thread could have been avoided by reading before responding.
That's what he said. He can't decide between the two so he's keeping both because both fit his needs. But we should toss ours because of "longevity" ... making the false statement that another MacBook Pro like this isn't going to come around for a long time ... except ... you know ... during the next refresh.

Again, not what they said, not even close. It's still there to read. Start with the title.

Hint: I'll be very surprised if the touch bar comes back in the next refresh, or ever.

99% of people can be served by the M1. Unless you are pro, it's FOMO and GAS that is driving your purchase.

More than 1% of people are pros at something they use their laptop for. And many also have graphics-intensive hobbies, or whatever.

For me, and no doubt some others, it's more about screen space. I always use every cranny and want more. I'd happily buy a 19" Mac laptop if they offered one. Without the top processors would be fine if it lowered the cost.
