Am I the only one that looked at that picture on that site and thinks it was totally photoshopped? I'll worry about it when it comes out in reality.

At least i actually have the Retina Display in my possession right now as opposed to some vaporware and who the heck wants a 4.8" cellphone. Its a mini-tab at that point. Maybe Dell might be interested in for their Streak.

Hahah a higher resolution screen means more app updates. I hate the app updates where they don't improve the program at all and they only make the icon higher resolution.

The most impressive part of the Retina display? It's actually being produced.

All this other stuff coming out of R&D labs, yea its cool, but most often it never even makes it to the market. Vaporware through and through.

more colors? lol what are you talking about

It's a common technique in high end graphics. Plenty of SIGGraph papers on it.

There were even ancient Apple II programs that attempted to do this, but you had to stand way back from the monitor for the HIRES colors to appear to blur together smoothly into a richer palette.

The colors of multiple pixels can appear to average to a new color not in any single pixel. And if the pixels are small enough (as in Retina), the pixel will blend together and you can't see the details of this trick. Call it dithering, or spatial noise shaping, et.al.

Perhaps English isn't his first language. Can you say "I'm a smug optician" in Chinese? Nice try at belittling someone though.

+1
I think people who correct other people's English or grammar are stupid. Who cares about it anyways? This thread is for a retina display and not for correcting grammar.

some of you are missing a very important aspect.

the 326 pixels per inch that Apple use in their retina display ARE noticable if you are viewing from a distance less than 12 inches (if you have good eyes). Take a look yourself up close.

12 inches and beyond the human eye cannot detect the pixels. Mr Jobs even said this himself at WWDC.

if you actually think you cannot detect the pixels because Apple say so then im afriad the education system has failed YOU.

a higher pixel count IS beneficial if you are viewing from a closer distance, as the edges will appear smooth throughout the image.

Totally agree with you. I can see pixels on my ipod's screen too.
Maybe the next iphone's display will have even better resolution

Thank you for pointing this out. Not everyone on here speaks English as their native language.

BTW, Zildjian242, in your rush to pick on someone you yourself misspelled ophthalmologist. There's no such thing as an opthamologist. Everyone can make mistakes -- try to be a little more understanding.

I'ts hilarious how you guys try to downplay any non Apple acheivement. If Apple was in the process of producing these displays you guys would love them, but since it's another company we get the "what's the point" responses. We'll have 720p Android and WP7 phones before the next iphone release so it doesn't matter anyway.
