They're new instructions and they stipulate to select "erase volume group" which seems to be an important part of not causing problems.Quackers, I am confused why you would link to instructions that say to use Disk Utility to erase?
You can't get past that screen. Go to post #26 in this thread and follow those instructions.I wiped the discs everything went smooth until now, it’s stuck on "Create a computer account" after a while an errormsg pops up stating "Computer account creation failed"
Dont know what to do here. How do I get past this screen?
In Disk Utility did you select erase volume group at bottom left of the window?Yes, that's the one. And yes. 11.2.3
Found a Reddit thread with a possible solution. Seems to be a bug or at least wrong instructions on the Apple support pageThat's what I did. It's one way according to their support page
Got it. Thanks. But I can't get the reset password popup to show. But I've removed the computer from my iCloud account and got the option to erase Mac. Currently installingYou can't get past that screen. Go to post #26 in this thread and follow those instructions.
I see. I'm not sure that is proven. In my case, I deleted the Mac HD and then deleted Data afterward, together which I assume is the group. After that I got the same error message as Dockland. They're new instructions and they stipulate to select "erase volume group" which seems to be an important part of not causing problems.
Strange, but I wouldn't be concerned.I can't get the reset password popup to show.
No, that's not the same thing and is possibly why you're having this problem.I see. I'm not sure that is proven. In my case, I deleted the Mac HD and then deleted Data afterward, together which I assume is the group. After that I got the same error message as Dockland.
Seeing as how @Dockland got the same results as me, it doesn't sound much different as far as results go.No, that's not the same thing and is possibly why you're having this problem.
Either follow @SpeQ 's instructions or go to the previous Apple instructions here
https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT211983#recoveryassistant
from after "Use Apple Configurator"
That's fine, just plug in its charging cable.I only have the Magic Mouse & Keyboard.
My understanding is they erased the group, following the instructions you posted.Has @Dockland done what you did or what Apple's article suggests?
I followed post #26 and it’s working now 🤩Has @Dockland done what you did or what Apple's article suggests?
Good to hear.I followed post #26 and it’s working now 🤩
Disk Utility works fine, just a few extra clicks. I actually prefer using that because you don't have to boot into Recovery.I am confused why you would link to instructions that say to use Disk Utility to erase?
On an M1?Disk Utility works fine, just a few extra clicks. I actually prefer using that because you don't have to boot into Recovery.
It does, but only if you select "erase volume group"My theory (and it’s only a theory) is there’s something additional happening when you erase via Recovery Assistant, as opposed to using Disk Utility, (which confusingly is also in Recovery Assistant). When you erase via Recovery Assistant, you get that Activate Mac screen, which I think must be a necessary component in the process. It may also be a part of the resetpassword process, but regardless, it seems to be necessary and it doesn’t happen using Disk Utility alone.
I hope that's a USB-C charging cable you're using....I’m restoring from a Time Machine backup now via a USB-C WD Drive and it’s showing it’ll be about another 3 hours to finish.
I see it says that in the instructions. Have you actually tried those instructions? It does, but only if you select "erase volume group"
