I'm trying to decide what computer to purchase at the moment. The MacBook Air seems underpowered on paper but I am curious wether or not it's worth it? I play games like Civilization 6, Cities Skylines and Sims4 so I understand I would have to buy the BlackMagic Pro eGPU. I currently own a 2015 iMac and wonder if this could replace it with a large spec bump.

    Current 27' iMac 2015
    -4.0GHz i7
    -16GB RAM
    -Radeon R9 M395X 4GB
    -2TB Fussion Drive

Possible MacBook Air with the BlackMagic Pro eGPU
    -1.6GHz i5
    -16 RAM
    -Radeon Pro Vega 56 8GB
    -1.5TB SSD

My only concern is the price of the MacBook Air with eGPU $3,800.00 + $1,500.00 for 5K LG Display.
Should I wait to see what the new iMac refresh looks like or should I just purchase this now? Any feedback would be appreciated!

even with an eGPU that 7W CPU is going to be seriously underwhelming for gaming. you really would be better off just lighting your money on fire if this is your "gaming" setup.

if those are the only games you are playing, why even upgrade at all?

I agree, I would not use the eGPU with this machine. The CPU is just too much of a bottleneck to use an eGPU imo.

Get a Pro in your case.

Which MacBook Pro would you recommend?

I need to have portability, so the laptop and desktop together would be ideal! Also, the SSD over fussion is much better
