Trust me I can certainly afford whatever device I want it's pure principle that if I'm only going to use 5gb of space I don't need a 32gb phone.
\

Sorry but calling that BS.

If a person what smart and had "pure principle" he would just stick with what he got instead of going to the trouble to change it for the little to be gained. You are really giving yourself away here.:p

Not many will believe you on this.

And here I am in exactly the opposite boat.

I bought a 4S 16Gb and need a 32Gb.

Unfortunately through Sprint, both the 16Gb and 32Gb are on back order so I have to wait about 2 weeks before my local store will have one to swap out.

As far as your question, If you back up via iTunes, you should be able to retrieve everything...

The only exception would be text messages. I dont think they are saveable.

Don't need the text messages so that part I don't mind. I'd just ultimately like the new phone to look identical to the one I currently have so I wouldn't even notice the difference set up wise.

Texts will save when u backup

I like taking lots of pictures and video. I'm positive 16GB won't be enough.

I also record TV/Movies to watch when I'm traveling. I know you can stream stuff -- but you can't always rely on a signal when you're flying (a lot of planes don't have WiFi yet, and those that do, often have choppy bandwidth that you're sharing with all the other passengers.)

I think the 1080p video camera is the main reason to go bigger than 16GB.

Good luck OP on your exchange.

I once had a neighbor named Ms. Jean. Ms. Jean was extrememly self rightious and thought she should get whatever she wanted.

Rules and regulations did not apply to Ms. Jean. If a coupon had expired, she would yell and scream and threaten to call district managers until the store accepted that coupon. She even prodded another neighbor into divorcing her husband because, "he didn't talk to her about her feelings very much".

In the world of huge global corporations we live in, it is easier to give in to Ms. Jean rather than try to argue with her and waste an employee's time and energy. Ms. Jean usually did get what she wanted, but she was also a miserable woman that no one wanted to be around eventually

Writing a biography on your significant other?

I know, you know, we all know that when electronics are returned after being used, there's always a re-stocking fee that goes along with it.

If you buy a MacBook from the apple store, and return it. Do you volunteer to give a restocking fee ? You make a donation to apple? I've never paid a restocking fee in my life for an electronic device.

I have bought at best buy, Walmart, Kmart, and the apple store, and have never paid or have been asked to pay restocking fee.

" we all know that when electronics are returned after being , there's always a re-stocking fee that goes along with it" this is an ignorant statement.

If the OP asked this question and was told there is no fee, when the apple store does not charge this fee is very misleading. Had he been told the truth, he could have brought his business to the apple store.

Wow OP. Nice responses. Please note you will need to take your parents with you to exchange your iPhone as these transactions are typically restricted to people 18 years old or older....

And learn to grow a thicker skin and check the attitude....

I would have asked Ms jean to leave the store, if she declined I would have called the police and had her arrested for trespassing, end story.

I bought an open box Mac mini at best buy last year and asked the sale guy if it came with a one year warranty. I was assured it did and even had the sales rep write and sign ont the bottom of the invoice that it had a one year warranty. 3 weeks later I had to bring the mini in for repair, when I set of the repair I became aware that it had only 6 months of warranty as the open box was already registered.

Best buys policy is that open box item come with a warranty as if it was new, I even had the sales guy also rewrite on my invoice that it had a 1 year warranty and he signed it.

Best buy would not let me return the item as it was past there 14 day return period. So what would you suggest I do it this situation? Give in? I complained and complained. I said they could remedy me with a refund or an Mac mini with a 1 year warranty. Best buy decided to exchange my 2009 open box Mac for a brand new 2010 Mac mini.

If the op was indeed told he could exchange the phone without penalty then that should be honored. The op is not Ms. Jean, Ms jean would have bought a 16 gb 4s come back and asked for a free exchange to a 64 gb 4s claiming the service sucked.

64gb for me. 32gb of course keep. It's a measly $100 more for 16gb. For a device that will cost you a couple grand to use in the next 2 years, the $100 difference is nothing.

BOOM! I'm done for the night. You sir, have the best responses.

Best comeback of all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I exchanged my32gb for a 16gb. I doubt I will use that many apps. All my music is streamed from either Pandora or Sirius. I have unlimited data through Verizon so data doesn't affect me.

I did have to pay restock with Verizon but I got the $35 refunded by American Express with their return guarantee.

Did you get yours at the Apple Store? So it was just an exchange, or did you have to return and get a new phone?

Go 64GB, 1080p uses storage quick.

Best reason for a 4S is the camera/video improvements,
might as well have memory to use it all the time.

If that does not matter might as well get a 4 instead and really save.

The way you buy the iPhone on day one is the way that it will be till the day you stop using it. So while you may feel that the 16 GB version will suit you best, even though you have the 32GB version now, you don't know what may change?

What if you change jobs and your new job requires you to travel? You may find yourself needing to keep a GPS app like Navigon on your iPhone. With The maps downloaded to your iPhone your app could be 2GB?

What if you go to an event, like a wedding and start taking a whole lot of pictures? You'll need more space?

Worse yet, what happens if you get in an accident and you need to take video of the scene for your insurance? You'll need space!

In other words, extra space is something that you can not download from an app, you can't upgrade it in the phone, and you can't (or won't) want to force yourself to buy another phone down the road.

I had a 32GB iPhone 4. When I got it I was using about 8GB total. When I upgraded to the iPhone 4, I was using 24GB of storage. I bought a 64GB 4S and I feel that with apps changing, music purchases, audiobook purchases, thee extra $100 for the extra space will be worth it.

Everyone is different. But I like to plan ahead.
