Thinking about getting the new 15" MBP, but..

I also feel that there should be a new mbp in june because that is the time when students (one of apple's largest target groups) will be needing a computer for college. With all of the new updates on montevina i would think that apple would want a piece of that pie. so wouldn't it make sense for apple to come out with one in that mid-summer time period?

I think there will be an update in June but I'm buying one now cause I need it now. It really depends on your situation.

the sad part for me is I need one but I want a blu ray drive for it SO bad! It's almost a dealbreaker for me. I should be jazzed that i'm getting a 17" MPB but its almost sour grapes because all the new blu rays i buy from here on out, ( I have a PS3 and i pretty much just by blu ray now) can't be played or taken on the road with my $3K laptop! Pretty rediculous.

In a way I understand how you want a blu-ray drive in your Mac but it's really just a "want" and not a necessity. A month ago we didn't know if it was blu-ray or HD-DVD. We still don't know if blu-ray is gonna make it just because HD-DVD is gone. Apple knows what they are doing and at this point it's way too expensive to stick in blu-ray support in the Macs. If this was really a worthwhile investment we would have seen it in the Macs long ago.
IMO I don't see blu-ray making it as we are now downloading HD content and optical discs are just not as popular for storage now that hard drives have gotten so huge for cheap.
