Just remember it creates an ad-hoc wireless network. So if, for example, you have a Kindle and want to tether, as of now, you can't.

For those who have issues with MyWi connecting to your laptop, what iPhone do you have? 3G, 3GS, or 4?

Also is the laptop you're trying to connect to a macbook or pc?

i had trouble connecting my iP4 to my windows laptop. network adapter driver update solved the issue. the adapter was an intel wifi link 5100 agn.

Do you still get the 10 day trial now that it's in cydia??

I think the trial is 3 days only now.

For those that have purchased MyWi, Do you have any problems with it?

Any issues connecting your laptop or iPad?
Does it make the iPhone glitchy in any way?
Does it require a respring before or after use?

I've searched and most of the info I read is about problems with the cracked version.

I would like to purchase it now since it is through Cydia Store without Rock.

I have an iPhone 4 jailbroken on 4.0.1.

I would love to here your thoughts on the product from those that bought it.

Thanks in advance!

zero issues worth the money

I thought it was great until the update a few weeks ago. now it is junk! it works usually pretty well if you can get it to work. but I do lose the wifi signal alot but when it works I never lose the usb signal. I would not buy it. I cam currenty using the tetherme app and only use MyWi when I need the hotspot. there is supposed to be another $2 app coming out but that was announced over a month ago and still not out as far as I know.

You obviously have the cracked version. Don't spread misinformation because your pirated software doesn't work 100% correctly. I haven't seen anyone with the legit version having these problems.

Hopefully the Kindle Dev Team will jailbreak the kindle soon! :)
The kindle CAN see ad-hoc, the software just isn't letting you. (like the worthless HTC incredible on VZ)

The only issue I have with MyWi is that, on my iPhone 4, the wireless hot spot significantly slows down the data connection. I can run a speed test on the phone and get ~1.5Mbps, then tether to my laptop and it drop to ~20Kbps...not sure if I need to change some settings or what...

That doesn't sound right.
I get great download and upload speeds on my laptop while connected to my i4 thru wifi.

I got great speeds on my 3G as well. That's why I think it may be something in the settings. I might try uninstalling and reinstalling it tonight. If that works, I will come back here and retract my earlier statement. :)

True, true.

In fact, my Speedtest on the iPhone 4 is just about identical to Speedtest I get on the iPad when tethering, same for the iMac...

well actually you are wrong! I have the paid version and have been having problems since the day of the update. you can check my other posts in regards to this and then you will find several others having the same issues. I dont use pirated software but I am glad you know it all. I will come to you next time I have an issue and will assume you will already know the answer.......

two questions:

how much battery does it really eat?

is the phone still able to take calls when the hot spot is active?

Great post.

1) at about 60% TX power, your battery drain is pretty considerable, (my test have giving me about 2 hours of continuos traffic until battery went down to about 20%

2) yes, phone is fully functional, you can talk on the phone, while playing "angry birds" and watching Netflix on your iPad Wifi

The battery will take a beating, that's why people recommend that you pugin.

Yes, you can still receive and make calls while tethered.

thanks for the replies. the battery thing is concerning. i would only use it if we (my family) were traveling with multiple devices. my ipad is 3g, but my son and daughter like to connect with the touch and macbook.

can someone explain how myfi is different from the $2 tethering app which was mentioned. is the battery usage any better on that app?

Tetherme only enable the stock Tetherting feature in iOS (only one device can be connect at the time using bluetooth or USB), it is not a hot spot. Battery wise of course is better it use Bluetooth.

MyWis is currently the only option for hotspot, so if you want those multiples MBP connect, MyWi the way to go. You can hook up the Phone the USB on the Car or on one of the Computer and you won;t have any battery issues.

thanks again. tethering to just one device would probably work for me.

Gaming

I decided to try gaming while using MyWi and I was traveling from Murry KY to Nashville TN and I have really had no issues playing wow while traveling down the interstate. I did have spotty areas but overall it was fine.

It totally surprised me that I could play and voice chat over3G/Edge. checking Macrumors.com and other sites over 3G/Edge through MyWi wireless was easy. But please keep in my that I have an unlimited account. If you decided to do Youtube and stream movies you will hit your limit quickly.

You can't do voice and data at the same time with edge. Only 3G.
