This is no different than the car debates that go on. Someone will say they bought car "X", and had nothing but problems, worse car ever made. Meanwhile 10,000 other people own the same car, and love it, and never have issues. Most probably boils down to dumb users...

Crap.

LOTS if people are having the WiFi drop problem with ALL new Macs running Leopard.

I've just switched to a Mac (MBP) and it utterley sucks to have a platform that can not retain WiFi connectivity. I mean that is pretty *** damn basic. Then you have the suckers who bought a MBA with the same problem all because it is thin. I mean what kind of metric is "thin" - I've never heard someone saying their laptop is too thick. Instead they have a thin machine that can not retain WiFi for along periods.

As you can guess I am less than happy that Apple fail to fix this problem and Apple followers try every excuse under the sun to avoid the issue.

Define Lots...those on this forum, thousands that have bought them? I know people who own both MBP's and MBA's, and have no issues with Wi-Fi at all.

I was deathly afraid of the wifi issue myself.

I went so far as to purchase a Dell M1530 before cancelling the order (didn't want to regret not picking up a mac each time I passed the Apple Store)

picked up a MBP one week ago and it has been absolutely flawless

zero wifi issues with a lousy router at home (WRT54G) and an even worse network at my office (constantly crashing)

Remember that the only people that are posting about wireless are those with problems.

Of course, you don't write a complaint if you don't have something to complain about!

You don't see the other 98% of people who have FINE wireless.

Who knows what the stats are. One thing for sure is the numbers are nowhere near an acceptable level. A lot of folks use wired or wifi only for short spells and may not notice.

Not only does my WiFi drop a good few times a day (it was every other minute before I changed the router to G instead of B+G) but a couple times a day it forgets the WPA2 key which is annoying. No PC in the house has this problem.

I'm not saying I haven't had trouble with my wireless, however the thing that fixed it for me was switching from B+G to straight G only. That and changing the channel the router transmitted at.

Do you have the WPA entered into keychain?
Do you have the latest updates?

my solution: try it, if it doesn't work, return it

(talk to the apple store manager beforehand and see if they are willing to waive the restocking fee)

very glad i opted for the mbp over the dell

Soms: We posted at the same time so it's pretty interesting we both noticed setting it to straight G solved most of the problem. I've not played with the channels though. And yes there is a recent airport+time machine update listed that I have not installed yet.

Yea for some reason I would get dropped periodically like maybe once a day or so, and I decided to change the channel from a high to a low one and I haven't had a drop in a couple weeks now.

I had to laugh, thanks for that.

In my sorry defence I do have to say that I had all updates. When I got the machine I ran all updates but the machine would not eject discs and so the Mac repair place told me to reinstall Leopard. The machine had bad WiFi back then (~1-2 weeks back, I loose track). But since reinstalling Leopard (so discs would eject) I've not bothered with the updates.

Care to clarify? Those statements seem contradictory.

I have to agree with poster earlier who described with his tire of the "Ahh ha - I got a Mac and it has problems" post mentality. News flash: Apple sells consumer electronics, and they are not immune to the problems. There is an excuse if you get a dud. There is no excuse if they refuse to accept it in exchange for a one that is not a dud.
