So I just got a screen protector on my Max and got it on perfectly, it looks and feels as if there were nothing on it other then two problems. When you swipe up to close an app you feel a bump because that's where the edge of the screen protector is, and that just doesn't feel smooth like apple intended. That's a minor thing tho, the biggest problem that I have with the screen protector is that it makes the notch stand out much more. This is an oled screen, so when watching YouTube videos in 16:9 you shouldn't be able to see the notch because the black bars are pitch black, however, with the screen shield I am able to see the outline of the notch and it doesn’t blend in as well if that makes sense. Thinking about taking it off, I have apple care anyways. Thoughts?

Fix for your notch.....

I don't think you need someone to tell you how to use your own device.

Use it the way Apple intended? You paid for it, use it the way you intend to.

Screen protectors make people feel good knowing the screen is protected somewhat. For others it is a nuisance. Applecare or not, you will most likely upgrade in 52 weeks and counting down..

I’m literally in the middle. I like feeling protected, especially with my flimsy apple leather case, but after not using a protector on my X and being used to how well the notch blends in without a screeen protector, I just don’t know if I can keep it. And I’m just asking advice and making conversation, that’s what these forums are for.

I used to be a huge proponent for screen protectors. Then, about 18 months ago, I took off my Zagg glass from my 7+. Never a scratch or crack, and it’s just looked and felt better. I thought about going back to using one with my Max, but decided against it.

I’ve always hated them, I just put the thing on so well that it’d almost be a shame to take it off, I’m quite proud of myself lol no rainbow effect or anything. But yeah, leaning towards taking it off unfortunately, it just sucks that apple doesn’t cover scratches for apple care. That’s basically just asking people to drop their phones once they get a scratch that they can’t stand anymore lol

Only you can decide. I hate them. Is my screen flawless? Nope. Scratches? Nope. Lines in oleophobic coating? Yup. Do I care? Nope. Covering amazing screen with extra layer of cheap plastic or glass, for me, goes against the core of using such amazing hardware. If I worked in a harsh environment I might consider it. Probably not though.

I’ll add one thing here. It also depends on if you travel internationally a lot. I hate them but have had one on my 7+ and now X. I’ve got apple care +. But what if I’m in Turkey ;for example) and crack the screen. I’m hosed till I get back to home base. Multiple airline trays also leave me vulnerable. Once I move back home (states) permanently I’ll never keep one on. If it cracks it cracks. Within a day or two I’ll have it fixed through Applecare.

A high quality tempered glass screen protector is my only “case” btw. My devices are tools, I enjoy their tactile feel and don’t get the point of covering up. Naked all the way.

Never use screen protectors on anything. Never. Have had zero problems with iPhone 3G, iPhone 4s, or iPhone 7. Never a problem with iPads. And I am rough with Apple products -- they are devices to be used, not jewelry.

Also, forget the "oleophobic coating," it's never worked for me. I regularly clean the screens using glass cleaner and paper towel. Even after years of cleaning screens with cleaner and paper towel on iPhones and iPads, no scratches.

Remove the screen protector, they are a waste.

Edited to add. It saved my arse last year. I work in a country where devices are purchased outright , no upgrade plan etc. I was about 4 hours from the nearest apple store. My 7+ fell off the resto table , flat on its face, hard tile floor, 4 feet. It DESTROYED the screen protector. I simply peeled it off and the phone was pristine underneath.

Until last week actually my X was naked. I don’t like the edge feeling either. It fell multiple times and surprisingly nothing happened. Tough little fella. Finally decided that I was tempting fate too much and found a random ad on IG for a 5D screen protector where it’s got actual black edges and goes over the sides. The first day was odd. The phone even felt heavier. Then you just get used to it. No edges. Fantastic product.

I use one of the full coverage “3D” screen protectors. I literally cannot even tell I am using a screen protector. It’s awesome.
Sounds like we have the same thing. It really IS awesome. I don’t have a link sadly. It was a random ad on Instagram. More than likely sourced from AliExpress. Got to me within two days. They really are worth it. To me.

I’m gonna sleep on it, but I think I’m going to take it off. Since apple won’t fix a scratched phone under apple care and they only replace cracked screens, if I ever scratch it I’ll just use the phone without a case until it gets cracked lol. This notch thing I don’t think I can get over, the bump when closing apps I could though
[doublepost=1537760699][/doublepost]Took it off, **** it

I actually had to put one on because the new display on my Max felt a bit sticky—that’s kind of new. I guess whatever coating they use now is kind of micro textured or something. I liked the feel of my tempered glass protector better. But I don’t like the look of it because it does have a cutout for the notch.

I had one of the i-Carez full screen glass protectors on my X last year and liked it. I would have gotten another but it wasn’t available for the Max at the time I ordered. I’ll do fine with this for awhile.

This.

**

Plastic screen protectors are junk, Glass only. And get a FULL coverage glass one.
Grabbed this one because it would get here before the iPhone

My Spigen one that I ordered day 1... still not here.

Just look for full coverage 3D ones. I'd post the Maxboost ones that everyone loves, but not full coverage.

I just dropped my XSM put a little chip in the glass screen protector. Screen underneath is unharmed.
For a phone this size I can’t do without a protector - there are just too many opportunities for damage. But to each his / her own.

I also recommend iCarez 2.5 tempered glass protector. Looks great, easy to apply and covers the whole screen. You can find it on Amazon.

Me too! These are awesome - better than the Peel version by a mile! The Peel version cracks if you look at it. Total crap. This one is solid and one box cones with two. Great deal. There are NO edges to deal with - you would never know anything is on your phone.

I didn't think of this. Thanks. I won't be applying a tempered glass on mine.
