and also dont forget that apple knows how to get the full advantage of the hardware, the ipad doesnt need 1g of ram to work "fine" like the galaxy. even at its 512 outperforms the android tabs. ive tryed many android tabs and they are laggy.

so the key is perfect hardware-software combination that apple sure knows how to do it right

I'm confusing nothing. Google's OS (Android) is on Samsung's hardware (Galaxy Tab). Together, they make a me too iOS on me too hardware. Both the software and hardware elements are blatant iPad copies. And I'm not just talking about the rectangular screen.

Your comment that Android is a "copycat" of iOS is simply untrue. The two operating systems share a common ancestry in the form of Unix/Linux but the two operating systems are significantly different. To maintain that Android is a "copy" of iOS is simply silly. One might as well argue that each is a "copycat" of Linux. And arguing that Android software is a "blatant iPad copy" is even sillier.

Your argument that the Samsung tablet hardware is a "copycat" of the iPad is somewhat stronger, at least according to the courts in Germany and Australia. But no one, even Apple, has successfully claimed that Android copies iOS.

Well, Apple knows how to do it to meet their specific objectives. They are able to get along with less memory primarily because they limit multi-tasking severely compared to Android (where multi-tasking is more or less unfettered.)

Apple controls the processor hardware (and memory) used for iOS. Android is agnostic on that point (purposely) since Google does not manufacture hardware.

It is certainly true that a manufacturer who controls both hardware and software can design the two to operate in a more coordinated fashion than a situation where hardware and software come from different manufacturers.

Unfortunately, there are downsides to that model in terms of innovation and competition. Apple has adopted essentially the same business model as IBM in 1970. It was the destruction of that model that led to the huge improvement in both hardware and software that has taken place in the last 40 years.

Hi all I've ordered an iPad 2 and it will be here tomorrow, I thought why not as it is the best tab out there at the min and I will never touch android so all that's left to do is get a mac lol

@ XxS4CR3DxX

Good purchase! I picked one up last week. It's the best purchase of an item that I will NEVER need. I say never need since there are other devices that I have at home that can do exactly what the iPad does. However, I just find the form factor hitting the exact sweet spot on a daily basis.

I read all of my academic articles (through good reader), news, stream movies (XBMC after Jailbreak), books and magazines (zinio) all on the iPad. It's quick and the battery life on it is excellent. I find myself, as others have stated in this forum, reaching for it over my laptop.

Again have fun with it once it arrives!

@dragonbong

Got it this morning nice and early (great delivery) loving it so far shame some of the apps I use aint compatable yet :(
But hopefully they will be soon, the added bonus is the misses loves it lol, the only thing is the camera could of been better as it seems very pixelated but never mind.
It is defently a great purchase very handy indeed.

NICE! :) One of the best things I noticed was the wife loving it too haha, no nagging = profit. On a side note I'm looking to get the swticheasy case for it but living in Canada it's $15 for shipping on a $50 product  and only $4-5 if you live in the US.

A quote from Walt Mossberg.
"One reason Apple’s iPad continues to dominate the tablet market after 17 months may be that all the main competitors look like imitations but don’t deliver as good an experience. They are typically flat slabs, like the iPad, priced about the same or more, but with many fewer apps, shorter battery life, usually greater weight and thickness and a weaker ecosystem for music, video, books and magazines. Whatever advantages they have—like added ports or the ability to play Flash video—haven’t been enough to sway consumers or developers."

I find the iPad more interactive device, the touch-screen on a larger scale gives an experience I've never felt on any other piece of technology.

You'd be surprised how many people choose android. Just sayin.

Someone has to ;-) this place would be boring without people like me around.

And the specs are still the specs. I'm not saying the ipad is a piece of junk, but it certainly doesn't have better hardware than, say, a xoom. That's BS and you know it. I'm here because a lot of people are putting the ipad on too high of a pedastal and it needs to be taken down a notch. Both have pros and cons. We are comparing Honda to toyota. Both are fine, it just boils down to personal preferences. At least with tablets.

u can have a tablet with quad core 5.5 ghz processor and 5gb ram and 1080p resolution, but all that matters in the end is the user experience... specs dont...

My "end user" experience with a Galaxy Tab has been slightly better than an iPad for only one reason, it has flash.

Apple has too much hate for flash. They just don't get it.

If I want to have a full web experience Flash is a must.

You can debate that all day, but the fact is we are far away from a Flash Free Web.

It's as simple as that. :)

First you need to ask what you will be using it for some Android device are GREAT choices despite what some apple fanboys say. I have an iPad 2 and still own an iPad 1. I have also (just before getting the iPad 2) owned an Asus Transformer tablet and loved it but gave it up for the iPad 2. I use my iPad heavily for handwritten notes in meetings and my classes and for this it works flawlessly with a stylus. My Asus was not good for this because of a lack of dedicated app for this and the one that exists work really bad because it is not very responsive. The new Android Honeycomb is new and lacks quantity of apps although growing so if this is important iPad is the way to go. In addition Apple has made the use of the iPad really easy through iTunes and the ability to sync, manage, and backup from here is great which you can also accomplish this with Android it will just require some learning, researching, and time.

I can post tons of links that show android users talking about HOW MUCH FASTER THE IPAD 2 is than the zoom. Sadly I'm an android phan but bottom line is that the the only thing the xoom or anything else has is a little extra ram.. Sorry

Not only that, but the graphics performance isn't even close. These are all things that can proven..now, if u really want to see how much faster the iPad 2 is, actually pick one up and give it a try.

Lastly, A5 murders tegra 2, not even close, a simple search at our holy grail of android land XDA will reveal that easily. iPad users don't come talk **** in their forums, ***** that they can back up I might add. So leave it be, and deal with the fact that you bought a inferior product when it comes to what you are talking about anyway. The android tBlets are great, they just aren't done yet, honeycomb is still not quite completely ready to be brought out of the oven yet. So better luck somewhere else with your argument. Maybe you can find some dumber crowd that might believe you.

Btw, sorry u r having regrets about ur purchase. Us iPad users could sell our iPads used and buy two used xoom tablets, and that's only with the 16GB. on the bright side, u might be able to trade the xoom for a wifi iPad 1, 16GB. if u throw in $100 on top.

Agreed.

Hey your loss. I wish you the best. Not just with your tablet, but you know.... With your close mindedness.

I've often wondered why somebody who doesn't own an iPad and isn't looking to buy one would come on a dedicated iPad discussion board on a dedicated mac site and participate in discussions?

I gotta be honest, I've never even thought about going onto an Andriod forum. Imagine going onto one and every person who started talking about buying a xoom I would jump on them and tell them to check out the iPad instead. Imagine doing that? Everybody would consider you to be a complete and utter w.a.n.k.e.r.

Are you like those religious nutters who secretly hate gays, but are really gay themselves except it's with apple?

Your entitled to your opinion and all that but it doesn't change the fact that what you are doing in my books is an incredible waste of time and is kind of odd
