You started this thread yesterday, and already you have done the necessary paperwork??

Why bother asking a question, the answer for which you already know?

well you seem like you're mind is set. I will tell you though there will be times where you feel like you made a mistake in signing the contract. A lot of ******** you have to dish out, at time's you'll be bored out of your mind depending on your MOS, which one did you choose btw? If you plan on getting out of the Marine Corps after four years or 8 choose an MOS that you can use outside in the real world. As for me we don't do jack **** here in the united states, my job requires us to be in war. 1371 Combat Engineer, we are the jack of all trades in the Marine Corps, we clear minefields, we blow **** up(demolitions), search for IEDs and we're construction.

You say you arw out of shape, if you can't do 3 pullups, 100 crunches in 3 minutes nad 3 miles under 28 minutes I suggest you put off bootcamp for a few months and work on it. You don't want to be stuck in Bootcamp longer than you should. Too me bootcamp was pure mental, can't be weak and can't let the drill instructors break you down. Do what you are told and you will be fine. Btw are you on the east coast or west coast?

I am thinking of doing MP or some security detail job. I ultimately want to be a US marshal when I get out, so something in military law enforcement or guarding an embassy seems like it will work well. Yes I know I started this thread yesterday, but I have already made up my mind. I went to the recruiter today and he wasnt like any other recruiter I have talked to, and yes I have talked to a few. He didnt ******** me about oh we can pay for college and we can give you this, he was like man if you want to do it I guarantee that you will effing hate it at first but once you get done you will feel like a completely different person. One of my good friends is doing RA right now and his storys kind of convinced me as well so I signed up, took a practice test, and am going monday to et my physical and asvab. I will be doing the DEP so my recruiter can work with me on getting in shape and all. I am so excited its not even funny, like I am so ready to go to boot camp if I could go today I would. Thanks for all your advice guys, and I will definately miss you guys for the three months I am at bootcamp! HOORAH!

MPs eh i hate MPs haha well if you want to take duty on an Embassy, after your two year mark in the fleet(aka attached unit) try to do a B billet such as MSG you'll get to go to 3 embassies, the first one of course will be ****** and the next two are get better and better, its another way to enjoy the world. its a 2 year billet so you will probably have to extend your contract if you go the MSG route or any B billet.

i'm not going to BS you either, the marine corps...its not for everyone but the benefits you get from it during and after you're in the corps are great just like the G.I Bill and disabilities. Bootcamp will be an ease as long as you keep a positive mindset don't let it get to you, when youre face is in the dirt and you're getting yelled at by 3 drill instructors just suck it up and thnk to yourself that all that punishment is making you stronger.

Make sure you go to your Marine Corps Balls its fun and a good reason to get drunk everyone gets so lax at the ball. If you have any questions man feel free to ask me.

If I were to start Marine boot camp, you'd be damn sure that I'd go in there in the type of physical shape where the boot camp would only be mental conditioning, and not physical conditioning.

What I'm saying is, use your gym membership. Like crazy. Hours per day, protein shakes, cardio. Do it all.

EDIT: Congrats btw, I'm glad you're so excited. Like most people in the country (U.S.), I've had lots of family in the military, and it's all impacted their lives in a positive way. Good luck and stay safe.

My DEP will only be a month or two, my recruiter is badass so he is trying to get me to go in asap so I am not there during the summer time. So I have a month to get my ass into shape and say my goodbyes to the civilian world! Well I am off to church for christmas eve I will post later. Thanks for all your support guys!

OP, you have made the biggest decision in your life, and there's no turning back. Having served in the United States Marine Corps for 12 years, the bottom line is your commitment (I'm not LYING) to be a Marine. Boot camp is the toughest thing you'll face, both physically and mentally. It doesn't matter how many times you get to the gym, there's nothing that will prepare you for the mental toughness that you'll need to get you through boot camp. Hopefully, you'll get to Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina, and you'll get real friendly with "the sand fleas!" The trip to the island will make you "a hard-charging Marine." You won't get much sleep, and the time for resting is when you graduate from boot camp. So many things are tedious and monotonous during boot camp, but you'll always have a full schedule. Stay motivated to complete boot camp and you should do just fine.

Depending on your MOS (Military Occupational Skill/Job) you'll have a limited amount of choices for a permanent duty station. It'll be difficult to find a job that will benefit you when you get out, but since you are pursuing a career in law enforcement, you are in the right branch of service. Near the completion of your tour of duty, you should be planning to take written, psychological and physical exams for any of the police departments or marshal's services a soon as you get to Camp Pendleton or Camp Lejune for processing for discharge. This works out to about 3-6 months for processing, so that gives you plenty of time to figure out what you want to do before discharge.

Education is very important since you are considering a career in law enforcement, and I strongly recommend continuing your education with Base Education Services and Military Tuition Assistance. Presently, many law enforcement agencies are looking for their officers to have at least an AA Degree and many organizations require a BA Degree, though you only need a high school diploma, many departments can now choose the more qualified applicant with the degree.

Sorry this is so long, but you can PM me at anytime. Semper fi, Oohrah!
