I ordered 2 IPs 5 S on early Friday (10 minutes after midnight) on opening day which we received on Monday.

My wife is not too happy with her new Gold/Silver 5 S for various reasons that I won't go into here. She's thinking of going back to her IP4 S. Her phone is the 2nd on our shared plan ($10 for the phone and $15 for her data).

Rather than returning it, I'm thinking of selling it on eBay. The phone was a full upgrade at ($199). I'm wondering if I'm looking for static from ATT/Apple if I were to do this. Effectively, I would be on the cuff for 24 months for this phone, but the monthly price should still be $25 plus tax whether she uses the 4 S or the 5 S.

Anyone know what my downside would be if I were to sell the 5S on eBay? If I were to return it, my wife's free upgrade would be put back in place for possible upgrade to the IP6 whenever it come out (Fall of '14?).

You will only get back your upgrade if you return it. If you sell on ebay, you will make a good profit which will offset any contract extension.

I was pretty excited to get my iP5s Gold in. But the gold rush got the better of me and I ended up selling it on CL only two hours after the UPS guy dropped it off. If you live in a city there are plenty of normal (not cheap) people who are willing to pay top dollar. I was pretty happy with the iP5s but I'm even more happy with the money. No more Cup o'Noodles for me--Top Ramen from here on out :D

The saying, "A fool and his money" comes to mind here.

The saying "troll" comes to mind here. Why do you care what I do with MY money?

There are a ton for sale on ebay and they are not going for that much. You might get lucky, but I see a lot of them being sold at or slightly above cost by the time you figure in ebay fees. I have a 16BG silver on craigslist right now and I just have it marked up a little and I've had no interest.

Probably because the silver was much more available then the gold and more people want at least 32gb. The 16gb only have like 10gb of actual storage I believe.

They will only give you "blowback" if you terminated your line............... And even then that'll come in the form of an ETF fee. You're fine............

Not if it is within the first 14 days, in that case they charge you the full retail minus what you paid as the subsidized cost.

Yes your best bet is to sell it. Being eligible for upgrade and not using it is what the carriers love. Paying them for a subsidy that they have not provided in essence is what you will be doing if you return it. So yeah go ahead and let your wife go back to her old phone and sell the 5S and enjoy your profit.

Sweet Jesus, that's nuts.

Not really. I had to pay full price anyways. The 64gb models sell for $900, after taxes they are close to $1k. So I paid a couple hundred premium to get a model that wont be available for months. Not a big deal to me.

More like a month, if that. They are shipping in October. But you are right you can do whatever you want with your money.

I'm embarrassed. People in the western world consider $1200 for an iPhone 'ridiculous'. Whereas, in my country of origin (Vietnam), that same model was offered at $2500 on the first day (not an official release, just some shops buying iPhones in Singapore & Hong Kong then selling them back). And there were lots of maniacs who actually bought at that price just to get an early hand on the blung-bling gold model.

> People are richer when they're smarter as a consumer.

Once you purchase the device AT&T and Apple cant tell you what to do with the device. Although I hardly doubt youll get anywhere near 1200 especially since it's used and open you can still sell it for well over retail price. In my recommendation do it before the weekend is over, Apple is expected to turn on in store pick up again on monday and at that point the amount of people willing to pay crazy amounts for the phone. I sold a brand new in box device 32gb gold for att today for 900 dollars on craigslist. I didn't run a big a risk on ebay and didn't have to pay the outrage fees of selling. All in cash and dropped off and met in a public place.
