Hello,

I am currently having issues with my Pixel 3.
Samsung is offering a great deal to upgrade, but I already have Apple TV and Macbook Air.
Family has iPhone XR's

My dilemma is go for Samsung deal or get the XR.

I think the pen thing is useless for me.

What do you think?

Thanks

XR will last a long time I would wait though 3 weeks for the keynote to see what it has to offer
Going to be a long wait for me, but may be worth it as we are so close.
Best Buy tried to talk me into the Note 10+

Honestly, since you're so used to OLED, have you considered iPhone X!? There's amazing deals on it out there right now.

Asking Apple forum members if you should buy Apple or Samsung is kind of funny really. Sure you have an Apple TV and a MacBook Air, and many will say the "eco system" is what keeps them using Apple, but if you are seriously considering another brand, (The Note 10 is a beautiful phone BTW) let's consider your needs.

Do you use your phone to stream content to your Apple TV? If you do get the iPhone, if not then get the Samsung.
Do you sync your phone in iCloud and with your MBA? Get the iPhone or use gmail with the Note 10.
Do you sync photos in iCloud? Get the iPhone or use Google photos with the Note 10.
Do you use FaceTime? Get the iPhone or use Skype with the Note 10.

It really comes down to how you use your phone with your other devices. I know many people who have Apple laptops, and use Android phones. Some sync everything with gmail or use outlook, and use Skype instead of FaceTime. It all depends on your daily needs.

The whole eco system thing can be overrated in my opinion. When my iPhone rings my laptop rings, my iPad rings, and my watch rings all at the same time. Gets pretty annoying sometimes.

What are you basing this off. The Note 10 plus appears to blow Xr hardware away.

Since you’re asking that member, maybe you could explain your post in return how does the Note 10 ‘blow’ the XR away? In any case, it’s _not_ about hardware battles anymore, it’s the loyalty to the ecosystem/software platform someone chooses. Price points are pushing away the consumer from the newest hardware, they’re staying loyal to whatever ecosystem they belong to, not to mention, we all know that Samsungs OS updates are terrible, which also slows the device down, when the iPhone still performs fairly strong moving forward.

FOR ME, the ecosystem doesn't matter. I have an 8 Plus, the Xs gave me a headache, and a Sammy 10 plus. I switch between the two with no issues.

My 10 Plus has 512GB storage plus SD card support, 1440 resolution, 12GB RAM, ceramic back, three excellent cameras, etc. From what I see of the Note 10 plus it looks awesome but a bit too large.

No issues with updates or the phone slowing down.

Specs don't matter with regards to RAM etc. Android is renowned for eating RAM, iOS is much better optimised. There were benchmarks floating around showing the Note 10 wasn't as fast as the XR.

However, as previously mentioned, it's about the whole package, not just specs that makes the experience.

I'd wait the 3 weeks, when the new version of the XR is released, the current version will see a discount. Who knows, maybe the new version will appeal to you. I'm leaning towards it coming from a Max, if it has a telephoto lens, I'll probably bite.

A Note 10 with Pixel trade would cost me 12.50 a month.
XR would be 22.00

In my opinion, comparing the Note 10 to the XR or even the XlR is not a fair comparison. The Note 10 is Samsung’s flagship and it’s hardware is the best they have to offer, a fair comparison would be to the X Max or Xl Max. If cost is the driving factor for the OP and the ecosystem doesn’t matter I’d say the Note 10 is the best choice. I personally would never purchase an android device because I prefer IOS but considering the OP already was using android, in this situation the Note 10 offers more.

Doesn't sound like a bad deal at all. If I were ever tempted to go back to Android, the Note 10+ is the phone that would get me to switch. I had Notes 2-4 and loved them. I agree with what you're saying about the S-pen, it doesn't do much for me. After the first week, the novelty wore off. For me anyway, my wife used hers all the time. I'm just to invested in the Apple ecosystem to switch at this time. But who knows what the future holds...

I guess I would like to get back in the Apple ecosystem, as I have a mac and Apple TV.
I wish the cost was lower. I like the XS, but XR is more affordable.

If you can afford to wait until September after the new iPhone's are announced, you'll be able to get the Xr discounted. I'm not sure if your Pixel 3 is still usable after you mentioned you were experiencing issues.

Right now it is working, I did a Factory Reset (pain), I have some apps I miss when I had an iPhone.
Like Banktivity, Naturespace

Sprint (on a new line) has the XR for $15 a month with bill credits over 24 months. Also, if you get it at Best Buy, Best Buy is giving out a $100 gift card if you buy any of the current X line up of iPhones (XR, XS and even the X). I don't know if this is being heavily advertised, I did get an email about it just recently though.
