Sprint (on a new line) has the XR for $15 a month with bill credits over 24 months. Also, if you get it at Best Buy, Best Buy is giving out a $100 gift card if you buy any of the current X line up of iPhones (XR, XS and even the X). I don't know if this is being heavily advertised, I did get an email about it just recently though.
Thanks, will check it out.

Everyone keeps citing the "eco system". What is the big deal? You can sync between most platforms these days with any number of apps. iCloud is not the only game in town. There are many ways to sync and it's not just brand related.

I ask because I feel many people cite the "eco system" as a catch phase but rarely point out what about the eco system is so important that they just couldn't bare any other brand of phone. Makes no sense.

Even through hardware is older than new Note 10+
Yes, because hardware doesn't matter if you're stuck with Android and it works with NONE of your other Apple equipment.

Simple:

My phone talks to my Mac which talks to my iPad which talks to my Apple watch which talks to my Apple TV.

Throw an Android into the mix and it all stops talking. At least not without a bunch of unreliable third party apps, oh and good luck even checking your iCloud email form your Android. Especially since I have been using iCloud email since the days of .mac.

^This in a nutshell. I find IOS to be a much better performing platform as well. For my needs anyway.

Brings up a good point for me. I can't use my Apple watch if I use another type of phone. Makes me think continuing to use Apple products is not "because" of the eco system, it's because we are "stuck" in the eco system.
It depends on personal preference still. I don't feel stuck, because I enjoy my Apple products. Android feels like Windows on a phone to me. Conversely, Windows phone felt much better than Android, because it didn't feel like Windows on a phone, which is just funny.

Hello,

I am currently having issues with my Pixel 3.
Samsung is offering a great deal to upgrade, but I already have Apple TV and Macbook Air.
Family has iPhone XR's

My dilemma is go for Samsung deal or get the XR.

I think the pen thing is useless for me.

What do you think?

Thanks

Well Note 10 has a better design, is probably faster, has a much better screen, has possibly better cameras..

But...

If you plan on keeping it for longer then 2 years don’t bother, Samsung don’t really support their devices long term.

Personally I’d wait to see what they’ve done with the next XR next month.

Samsung is a mess, their phones become laggy and buggy. Trust me this is coming from a former Samsung fan boy

guess I am going to wait for apple's release and see. I almost jumped on samsungs 600.00 offer.

Personally I like the Apple Watch, but liked the Garmin Fenix line much better. 2 weeks on a single charge and now with the 5x plus I can stream music which was a missing feature that was important to me. There are other alternatives if a person is willing to leave the walled garden. How do we know what else is out there if we are afraid to look?

Not sure, I would think today as release is tomorrow
There will be other deals and the price will drop in a few months on the note 10+. Don’t worry about feeling like you’re missing out. I would wait for the Apple keynote.

No idea how relevant this is to the OP but as an example of the ecosystem for me, I have 130,000+ photos in icloud that would be hugely time consuming and annoying to move, sort and categorise on any other system, dozens of photo streams shared with friends and family members, many purchased apps shared between my own iphone and ipad, and I'm sharing purchases and an Apple Music subscription with my wife and two young children, the latter of which are also set up with various purchase controls that mean I can allow/disallow their app downloads etc from my own device. To leave Apple/iOS is basically unthinkable for me at this point. Luckily I don't want to.

I guess I would like to get back in the Apple ecosystem, as I have a mac and Apple TV.
I wish the cost was lower. I like the XS, but XR is more affordable.
It seems to me that it comes down to what system you're most comfortable using. For me it's Apple, and I own a XR. who knows, maybe one day I might look at things different. Good luck which ever way you go.

Hmm 600 is a pretty good deal! Maybe see what the return options are like if you do get it, if you leaves it unopened how long you have to return it as it may be long enough for the Apple event.
14 days, 35.00 restocking fee if opened
[doublepost=1566501003][/doublepost]The note 10 would end up costing me 18.75 a month, the iPhone XR would be 20.83 a month after trade

In your situation it makes perfect sense.

I too have 1000's of photos but do not keep them in the cloud. Over the years I have saved multiple "iPhoto" libraries on several external drives going back to 2001. Even living in the Eco system, some of my photo albums from years past had to be updated to work with newer versions of "Photos". The album would update and create a new album. Big mess.

Long term I have saved my albums as jpegs and RAW in folders on various external drives because iPhoto and now Photos is the worst when it comes to organizing photo libraries. I tried using the cloud but it was too slow for me, and would hang endlessly at times. I would get a message on one computer stating the connection was slow, and on another it would be fine. I have 300gb internet. Should have been fast enough. I don't trust cloud storage with a large library.

For me looking for alternatives makes sense. I still like the idea of being able to store photos on a 1tb micro sd card like in the Samsung.

Asking Apple forum members if you should buy Apple or Samsung is kind of funny really. Sure you have an Apple TV and a MacBook Air, and many will say the "eco system" is what keeps them using Apple, but if you are seriously considering another brand, (The Note 10 is a beautiful phone BTW) let's consider your needs.

Do you use your phone to stream content to your Apple TV? If you do get the iPhone, if not then get the Samsung.
Do you sync your phone in iCloud and with your MBA? Get the iPhone or use gmail with the Note 10.
Do you sync photos in iCloud? Get the iPhone or use Google photos with the Note 10.
Do you use FaceTime? Get the iPhone or use Skype with the Note 10.

It really comes down to how you use your phone with your other devices. I know many people who have Apple laptops, and use Android phones. Some sync everything with gmail or use outlook, and use Skype instead of FaceTime. It all depends on your daily needs.

The whole eco system thing can be overrated in my opinion. When my iPhone rings my laptop rings, my iPad rings, and my watch rings all at the same time. Gets pretty annoying sometimes.

You know you can turn that off right?
