So peculiar to me. Australia and New Zealand get their product a day before we do but I hardly ever see any first impressions from them. First the iPhone 14s and now ATV. Not until we’ve already gotten ours here in the states. I give up on these people and will ignore international product launch threads like this one going forward. 😂

No option to pick up here in the UK either. Only just received the dispatch notification so launch day delivery isn’t happening but could well be Saturday. Strange launch

Because hardly anyone has it. If you didn’t preorder, you have to wait til next week. No stock to pick up today anywhere here in Australia.

Hope everyone is enjoying their new ATVs!

Would be very grateful if someone could please check the audio output capabilities of the Music app? This can be done by going to:

Home Screen --> Settings --> Apps --> (APP SETTINGS) Music --> (AUDIO) Audio Quality

Does "Lossless" show as "ALAC up to 24-bit/48kHz" ?

Or (wishful thinking) 24-bit/96kHz or 24-bit/192kHz ?

Thanks in advance!
Hey mate only 3 options come under music in settings

I have the OG 4k and I am getting the new one, coming Monday though. The OG one will still live on though in a bedroom and in all honesty it still works absolutely perfectly.

As a 2021 ATV 4K owner, is there any good reason for me to get this?
some reviewers did say it operates snappier than the 2021.

if youre using yours with a TV that supports HDR10+, that's a selling point. the LG OLEDs use DolbyVision so this doesnt matter to those individuals.

the a15 will likely get leveraged for better performance by games.

someone else here mentioned that additional features that Apple doesnt mention tend to get found after they're in people's setups.

I’m running the beta tvOS 6.2 and it’s still maxed out 24/48 ALAC as their definition of lossless, the other option is AAC. And you probably already know, that forces that to any and all receivers.

Have to say I'm a bit disappointed that I had my despatch notification last night saying it would be delivered on Monday. I know it's not an iPhone or anything, but I'd still assumed a launch-day delivery :(

Edit: and now just had DPD notification that they're going to deliver on Tuesday, not Monday

No ethernet model on Amazon Japan for some reason but was able to pick one up at the Omotesando store. Gen2 moving to the bedroom and Gen1 sold this evening.

I still think we will discover some hidden capabilities once we see a few tvOS updates. VP9 on gen 2 4K wasn't known immediately. Obviously the greatly increased storage along with the A15 being metal3 compliant is one such gem. See this pdf. (it doesn't mention tvOS, but Apple Arcade games could be using that)

This could well be the case. We didn't know about audio passthrough for HomePods until the 2021 model started arriving with customers. In fact because of that I cancelled my order of the remote and upgraded to the 2021 model instantly.

Yep my S95B does use HDR10+ though I haven't found much content that utilizes it yet. Hopefully with Apple now using it, more companies will start to produce content that supports it.

Still waiting for digital bitstream passthrough so I can properly enjoy DTS audio tracks. Until then I’ll never buy another. This shortcoming is said to be tied to Siri voiceovers, which of course they could overcome in a morning’s work with a toggle, but I suspect it could also be due to some kind of exclusive rights deal with Dolby, in which case they will never fix it.

As an experiment I bought a few UHD Blurays from Amazon , I have to say the experience sent me running back to my Apple Tv , blu ray has such a clumsy awful interface in comparison ( Found DVD easier to use tbh ) and the picture quality isn't that much better tbh plus the prices are outrageous in comparison

Trying to load a disc in the dark when you've had a drink is not much fun I can tell you

Ordered a NEW ATV 128gb can't wait !!!!!

Apple have supposedly pulled it from sale this morning. Must be a software issue and a fix needed.

I find that the massively higher bitrate of UHD Blu-ray comes into its own more so with older movies that exhibit lots of grain and granular imperfections in the film. Particularly those with lots of dark scenes. Think, for example, Twelve Monkeys. The new movies are so hyper-digital and featureless that the lower bitrates served up by the streaming services tend to be almost moot. HEVC performs witchcraft with this sort of material. Especially animated CGI.

That is my experience anyway 👍

Yes the actual kerfuffle of discs vs the convenience of streaming is why I prefer the ATV

In the old days I had a laserdisc , now THAT was a nightmare to use , turn the disc over after 30 minutes LOL

hello MakeMKV.

But also hello the expense of building and maintaining the huge storage requirements necessary for hosting those massive files without first ripping them down with HEVC. As always, everything is a compromise 👍

Thanks for checking DarkSam!

Strange that your ATV doesn't seem to be showing "Dolby Atmos" or "Audio Quality" in the settings.

Presume you're outputting directly to your TV? If so, maybe I can only see those additional settings because I'm plugged into an AV receiver, which is then plugged into my TV.

If anyone else out there has a new 2022 ATV plugged into an AV receiver, would also be grateful if you could please check these settings as well! Thanks in advance.

A few hundred bucks for a hard drive that holds hundreds of titles isn’t a huge expense, especially compared to the rest of the a/v gear.

2021 was an improvement over the previous 4K model, smoother experience.
More or less.

The A12 doesn't really have any benefit over A10X on paper. CPU slightly better, GPU slightly worse.

In real world experience, I came to the same conclusion, sometimes the GUI on the 2021 being slower than the original 4K.
