Some of those changes included in the latest beta version are new icons and splash screens for the Office applications, as well as minor tweaks to several toolbar and ribbon icons.

It's good to see Microsoft innovating.

The icons may not be very nice however the interface is extremely polished.

Some notes:

- OCS works perfectly. Linked up with my Kerberos information, automatically downloaded our intranet certificate, presence and everything works perfectly.

- Outlook stores files outside of that horrible database. It is now very similar to that of Mac Mail. It converted my identity pretty quick without errors.

- Myday still looks the same.

- Still in its Beta stage outlook is fast but is crashing on me. I know they sent us an email saying that this release would be just temp since it was released more or less to fullfil the expiration date need.

- I do not see project center.

Entourage to Outlook?

Folks, would moving from 2008 Entourage to 2011 Outlook require translating Mbox files to PST? I recently moved from Windows to OSX, and it was pretty inconvenient to move all my 2007 Outlook PST files to 2008 Entourage Mbox.

Any thoughts?

The icons

I love how the majority of comments and discussion is about the icons and not the programs themselves feature,speed and usability wise. Typical mac users only caring about looks just has to be nice and Shiny. But seriously I like the icons reminds me of fingerprinting back in the day except the ugly Messenger icon come on time for a update. But do people still use messenger on mac? except for the corporate OCS stuff?

Outlook for Mac still doesn't use PST files. It supports importing only.

I hope this time they release the trial version earlier. Last time office '08 was released they took so long before releasing the trial. I might or might not get it depending on the trial... Hopefully when office is released the next version of messenger:mac will be out (with A/V capabilities).

For those of us who can't use iWork (Numbers is pathetic, IMO) and don't care for Google Docs or the weird Java-based Office variants, this is pretty much the other option.

It'll be nice to get some feature parity back to the Windows counterparts.

if I have the 2008 version (bought it) do they give a discount for the new version or will I have to buy it full price?
Microsoft is going to be eliminating all upgrade pricing, the price is going to be the price, it'll just be a matter of how discounted you can find their software.

Edit: I got this info from my TAM, but here is a published source.

wtf seriously? whats that about? and then they wonder why there is such a strong apple following. if it wasn't because im a university student I would be on iwork.

Has this been officially released as a beta, or is it only available through torrents? If official where do you find it?

With all these letter icons I'll bet we could start playing scrabble with our docks. Just think of the words you could spell?

Communicator - Outlook - Word ---> COW

PowerPoint - Outlook - Excel --> POX

PowerPoint - Outlook - Word --> POW

Now if only I could think of a way to work in the QuickTime "Q" on a triple-word score dock position........

Being an avid fan of Scrabble, that one made me ROFL :D

Thank goodness they released another beta so they could get everybody's feedback ON THE FRIGGIN' ICONS!

Good grief.

;)

I could not agree more.

Personally, my biggest worry is Outlook. I completely fail to understand why some people hold this application in such high esteem. As far as I am concerned it is a horrendous application that never ceases to drive me nuts, particularly with it's performance. When I was able to use my MBP at work then I much prefered Mail to Outlook simply because it was so much faster. Why Outlook is so slow for something that has to do so little is quite beyond me.

Anyway, I hope that 2011 is a good release as I am still using 2004.

No, I think the home & student versions will continue to be in the $100-$150 range. Not free, but not $400 either (unless you are a corporate entity and those probably have Enterprise Agreements in place anyway). This will be a change for all their product lines, both Windows and Mac.

Yeah, history has shown us that grabbing software through bittorrent is a good idea... :rolleyes:

I didn't suggest you get it on a torrent, I was asking if it was possible to get it any other way. If not I'll pass, if there is an official way of getting it that's the way I'll get it.
