I don’t get the big deal about airbags, are they supposed to help with memory loss?

i think the idea is to help find things you can’t remember where you put them - or things that are simply lost.

That later at least happens to all of us eventually whether we are super organiser with planet brains or want to pretend we’re in Star Trek tracking things on our hand held communicator.

I’d rather invest in Omega3 and have an organisational system personally as these things look like the modern day equivalent of plastic straws in terms of sustainability.

The smaller hole at the end reminds me of everybody’s favorite 5th generation iPod touch feature: the loop.

There was nothing wrong with it

Common sense - Put a hole in the AirTag and let people use whatever they want to attach it to whatever they want.

Apple - Nah, accessory sales.

I agree, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to walk to work because my car keys just up and vanished. Problem identified, problem solved.
I have the same problem, and I’ve finally got the ultimate solution. A 5$ bowl at the entrance of my home, it really works! :)
Will see what airtags can exactly do, but maybe it will be better for vehicles or baggage rather than keys(for me).

It’s a great way to never lose keys, but I know several people who have lost cars that way. :(

Tim has trypophobia.

Tim: What’s that hole there? Do we make money on that hole?
Designers: No, it’s just so the user can can attach it to stuff.
Tim: So take away the hole and make them buy an accessory.

Designers: No, it’s just so the user can plug in their earphones.

Tim: So take away the hole make them buy a card reader.

Designers: No, it’s just so the user can install a GPU.
Tim: So take away the hole and let them buy an external bay.

Designers: No, it’s just so the user can fit more RAM.
Tim: So take away the hole and let them buy a new Mac.
He also has moneyphilia 🤣

On one hand I'm really looking forward to AirTags, on the other I'm going to be so disappointed if this is gong to be their form factor (which is seeming more and more likely). Selling a product line which is more or less useless out of the box without an additional item is surely a first* for Apple? It seems that Apple have almost set out with a limited use case in mind and designed the AirTags around that, rather than offer something that could have been much more versatile.

*OK, so maybe iPhones without chargers and BYOKBM Mac Minis, but at least with those the expectation was you already had what you needed

I just realized someone should make AirTag jewelry. Was thinking in the vein of DogTags. Apple’s AR strategy so we can have information overlayed so we don’t forget people’s names. I’m honestly struggling to find a use for these but I guess these are more an accessory than a product.
Maybe a next gen with a card form factor, so you can use it as the typical "Hello, my name is ..." card or just at shops, expos, etc to have the info in your language and products with the correct currency for you

Do you have car keys? House keys? Do you ever carry a backpack? Attaching air tags to any would be useful.

I was gifted a couple of Tile trackers some time ago. I often forget I have them.....and when I do remember, they are next to useless. Usually out of range, too quiet, etc, etc....oh, and then the battery runs out and it gets destined for the bin.

Perhaps the Apple tracker will be better? Who knows, but I believe they will be overpriced and while its nice to have the full Apple integration, the reality is it's a "nice-to-have" but not really necessary item.

I've misplaced my car key a couple of times, but it's always because I didn't return it to its location the moment I got home. The same goes for my wallet.

I've never lost my backpack though! Plus, I don't believe a tracker would be much good in those situations since it would be completely out of range, plus a thief will more than likely remove the tracker and lob it in the bin rendering its use completely dead.

Lets see what they say tonight however.....

The price will need to be very near to the Tile for me to move over. I only use Tile on my wallet and keys, and around the house where I tend to misplace things, they can be found easily which serves my purpose.

Am I missing something here? It seems strange that a device that has to be attached to something (keys, dog, etc) in use will require an accessory to perform that basic task?
It's basically Apple's take on Tile....(which is useless 80% of the time)

I am hoping two options for Airtags value packs.
3 pack @ $89
5 pack @ $120
I fail to see value in your pricing.

$30 for what is essentially a $5 item?

If you have any money to spare, please send it my way.....

Why would you need to keep buying them? I mean, you might lose them. Sure. But seems strange to assume such a passive device with a long cycle between charges (if rumors are to believed) would *need* to be replaced.
If the battery dies and it's not user replaceable, then you have to buy it again. These things don't last forever. Generally it lasts 1 to 2 years, maybe 3 max. So keep that in mind if you think these are "inexpensive."

Let's hope the battery is user replaceable.

I need these for my Apple TV remotes, which are so thin that I can be using it one moment then tearing apart the couch searching for it next.

Anything else?
Supermarket trolleys!

Be really convenient if AirTags fit the coin slot/release mechanisms so often found on them.

And if someone grabs your trolley you will be alerted.

There’s a vendor that already will be making one with a hole in it that will likely be well cheaper than Apple’s version. Unfortunately, there are folks with crippling nullumaluphobia, which is, of course, fear of using anything that doesn’t have an Apple logo on it. (like routers and monitors) :)
