or did the British just not receive classic American television shows? Where's Mash? The Honeymooners? Gilligan's Island? Three Stooges? et al?[/URL]

I was born in '78 - and I have never seen an episode of any of those programs here in the UK. I've not gone and hunted them out, but nor have I stumbled across them.

Only Fools and Horses at 42? Come on, that was the greatest television comedy series ever and I doubt I'm the only one to think that. The only ones to come close are Fawlty Towers or Monty Python.

No way would I put some of the modern American dross that seems to be plaguing TV at the moment above it.

dude, omg, like wtf?

nuff said -- closing thread.

Was born in 78 as well. I know at least France/Germany and South/Central America got many of them (still do), though, even in the US you'd have to ditch school or stay up until 1am to catch them (the reruns, of course. Most of their actors/actresses were long dead by our time). But even those that didn't grow up with them or watch them religiously, knew what they were. There is no question they set the stage and established what (comedy) television would be in the future.

10. Spaced - no
9. The X-Files - no
8. The Wire - no
7. Friends - certainly not
6. 24 - no

5. Lost - no. Is good but not the best
4. The West Wing - No
3. The Sopranos - No
2. Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Definitely not
1. The Simpsons - Was good but isn't that great anymore. Should be in the top 20 but not number 1
No to The Sopranos, The Wire, and The Simpsons?

Simpsons = Overrated.

Every good show has its good seasons, and for the Simpsons, which was a good show, those years came a decade ago, and there weren't too many of them, either.

My liege ~ I will instantaneously run down to the offices of said magazine and berate them until they place a more acceptable list for all :D

"Will no one rid me of this meddlesome critic??" :D

I cut off my provider 4 weeks ago, and hate commercial television, but even I know that Barney Miller and House should both be on the list.

Spaced at 10? Lord above. I'd have placed that at 5th at least.

WTF no League of Gentlemen? That show tread new ground, they gave us an ambience now mimicked in other comedies.

James doesn't like this.

Sacrilege! No Alan Partridge?!

Friends............
Hideous bland drivel.

The A-Team was better than 75% of that crap and the A-Team was just average jibber-jabber

How on earth did they come up this list of 50 t.v. shows.
Was it based on any real numbers? Were these polled buy the magazines readers, before hand?
Or was this something, one of the writhers just came up with on his own.
Thats what it sounds like to me.

I know the British and the American's don't always, have the same taste. I don't care what Country your from. Buffy the vampire killer would never deserve such a honer, as number 2.

Buy the way, One british t.v show that I have seen, on more than a one occasion. Was, Are you being served.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Are_You_Being_Served?

Which I thought was very funny and would, in my opinion deserve a spot on that list.
