I would also buy it if it were half the price. But its not its crazy expensive and offers nothing. If you want to watch a movie there is nothing. No good apps. You can tell that real planning, product placement, and development went into the ipad before it were even released.

Offers nothing?

Do your research before you say such an absolute statement, the Xoom has quite a few impressive things about it if people bothered to look into it instead of immediately dismissing it as crap because it runs Android.

I own both. So let me just say this:

1. its only $70 more than the 32 gb 3g Ipad. When it is upgraded to 4g it will kill any ipad 2 3g speeds. BTW they just released a wifi only version of the Xoom and its the same price as the ipad 2. But with better cameras.
2. If i want to watch a good movie i do what i do on my Ipad... I drag it over and play it. Netflix doesn't have the greatest selection and i refuse to pay for Hulu +. BUT on the Xoom i can go on many movie sites, megavideo, ch131; etc. and stream movies or tv shows with Flash.
3. Flash.
4. Chrome web browser kicks ass. Its actually depressing when i use the Ipad's browser. Tabs are amazing.
5. Yes very lacking in Apps. But flash does compensate for the lack of video apps. And the web browser compensates for a lot of apps. For example, I don't need a best buy app, amazon app, facebook app; etc. B.c i can access the full webpage pretty easily in the chrome browser.

Now it depends on the user. I love both. The both have their purposes for me. Now will it fail? No i don't think so. It might not do the shear volume that iOS devices do. However, does it really need to in order to be a success? NO. Just like the Droid X doesn't outsell the iphone. Just like the Droid incredible or galaxy S series doesn't outsell the iphone. COMBINED they outsell it. and if you keep up with tech, you know that their are TONS of android tablets coming out. Creating more competition, lower price points ($349 wifi galaxy tab), and variety of product (Not everyone wants a 10").

I think your missing the point. Netflix is a side show for first run movies throught the mail. Its a bonus, ipad has itunes if you want to watch first run. Yes flash is nice but itndoesnt take the place of apps like flipboard, zite, netflix, itunes, etc. The ipad has better hardware and form factor. Tapple doesnt release products that will get the rest of it sometime in the future. The xoom is thick the charger is garbage. It will be discounted drastically in a few months if not less. It has potential but thats not good enough for $799. The playbook will outsell it in a week, and the ipad outsold it in a day. Android is nice but it really has no good support. The cameras are useless if anyone is out taking pictures with a 10 inch tablet they should be shot.

Sorry i owned a xoom for 7 days it was crap. And 3.0 is not ready for the market. It was released with 12 apps. No flash, sd slot doesn't work, you need to send it in for 4g, screen is horrible, its thick, the charger falls out, and its expensive for offering nothing but web browsing. I can get a netbook for $300 and do the same stuff.

I apologize then, that was more directed at the Apple fanboys that dismiss everything non-Apple as crap.

Just really pisses me off.

I'm sorry you didn't like the Xoom but am happy you did give it a week before writing it off, I do agree with you on some points obviously since I own an iPad 1. :D

I got off topic I was not trying to bash the xoom I just wanted to show why apple's products appeal to more people and how they are better at advertising.

I agree. I also bought and returned a Xoom. It fails on a number of levels and will not achieve mass success. However, it is just a first step, and to be fair Honeycomb does do some things better than the iPad. It will be an interesting couple of years to see how the market evolves.

If you want to watch a movie there is nothing.

The Xoom's speakers are amazing compared to the iPad, that was one of the biggest things I liked about the Xoom. I'd never buy one because I love my iPad 2 but I got to admit the speaker sucks on it.

I know, I played some music on an iPad 2 at a Best Buy just to compare, man I was happy to get back to my iPad 1 speakers when I got back home.

Ummm...lol...are you sure about that ------> look https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1132288/

Baahaaa... complete failure!!

The Xoom is kind of like the G1... It's the first iteration of the android tablet platform. I returned mine also, but you can totally see the potential. I loved Xoom also, but the product looks and feels like a half finished painting..

And I have been to many best buys and it always looks like this.
ipad-vs-xoom.jpg
Funny, the iPad displays at Best Buys near me don't look like that. Usually, they have a few people standing around them (usually younger folks) playing with them. Usually Angry Birds. Haha.

I will admit honeycomb has potential. Ipad not having flash is not cool. The gmail widget was amazing, back button was cool, and the settings tab. I just couldn't get past it crashing, the lack of apps, and for being a consuming media it had nothing.

I was also impressed by the Xoom. I see it having potential but when it comes down to it, it's all about the apps for me. I have a Droid X and the Android Market doesn't even compare against the AppStore, which was why I chose a iPad 2 over a Xoom.

Indeed. BOGO is not even close to getting one "free", as some people want to imply, since the second buyer has to be willing to also sign up for a two year contract with data plan. That means two people have to like that kind of phone, which is pretty amazing.

BOGO is more like, if you buy two phones with long contracts and data plans, we'll only charge you half price each upfront.

The 3GS at $49 is far more likely to suck in lots of single buyers.

I meant families. One dude I know got 4 xperias for no cost and only 3 months of shared family data plan after which it gets dropped.

For 'free' on a contract, that's really quite awesome though.

Pretty standard stuff. I have seen some amazon deals where u get paid to sign up for contract.

Anyways I do want the xoom to succeed so that keeps the pressure on apple to open up access to the iPad.

Not having flash isn't as big a deal on the iPad as I thought it would be, in fact I'd go so far as to say that I haven't missed it at all.....maybe that's just my browsing habits though.

I do think that by sticking to it's guns, Apple has forced a lot of websites to cater for the flashless iPad, which in turn means there are more websites around that don't depend on flash. Not a bad thing IMHO.....The less proprietary technology on the web the better.

I remember looking for the xoom and not being able to find it all and having to ask an employee. He pointed to the far side of the store with the netbooks. I thought that was so odd. when I got there, it looked just like the OPs picture(lonely and sad). Why would I pay 800 bucks for something sitting next to a group of netbooks vs paying 500 or 600 dollars for an iPad that sits in a display that looks as if its decked out for Disneys Epcot.

*"Netflix doesnt have the greatest selection"-Thats opinionated and wouldnt hold up in tablet wars court.

*"BUT on the Xoom i can go on many movie sites, megavideo, ch131; etc. and stream movies or tv shows with Flash."-DIE baterry...DIE!!!

*"But flash does compensate for the lack of video apps."- REEEACHIIING!!.....OK, maybe not reaching, but if the browsers makes up for apps, why not just get a netbook. save a lot of money that way. Apps are Apps for a reason. If i wanted to use the browser, then I wouldnt buy a tablet. I would just be satisfied with my cell phone and get an e-reader. You are basically saying that Apps are here for no reason and are a waist of money because we have the Web.

 plz do some research b4 writing things that are false. Flash is out for the xoom and works very well

It doesnt work well its there but choppy and its not a great experience. If it doesnt get better than that then i would rather not have it.
