good post OP.

is it just me or does it seem like every apple store i walk into the salespeople have some form of really bad ADHD? they're always jittery and not truly paying attention when you talk to them...

i have notice, because i have to wear a suit for work i get ignored, but if i'm there after working out at the gym in my running shorts or casual clothes (no skinny jeans :D) etc they approach me quickly. it's 100% of the time. weird :D:confused:

Launch a product, which they know is hugely popular, with limited supplies, and make people go through this crap every time.

:D Fantastic. 5 million units sold on opening weekend, and you think its a big scam to limit supply. Perspective goes totally out the window on these forums! :D

So you are blaming people who decided that waiting in line for a few hours was worth it instead of calling the Apple Store every day to see of they had stock ?

You have some serious issues if you are so personally hurt that people spend their money on apple products.

Whatever makes you sleep better at night, pal.

In the grand scheme of things, we are talking about a phone here. People waiting in line religiously, sitting up all night trying to find one in online stores - what is this? Why does Apple see this as a brilliant marketing scheme ? Launch a product, which they know is hugely popular, with limited supplies, and make people go through this crap every time. Meanwhile, they are launching in several other countries today - even when it is nowhere to be found in countries where it was first launched ?

I am bought into the Apple ecosystem - and I like the seamless operation of things between all my devices. But I must say, for the first time, upon reflection, I wonder why I buy into this Apple hype. I am a disgruntled customer of Apple at this point - This experience opens the door for the possibility to look elsewhere. They shouldn't put their customers through this nonsense. And then there is the "Apple experience" of attaching some significance to even mundane things like removing your new phone from its wrappings for the first time - and we all, in a pavlovian way, look forward to that experience - removing a phone from its box!!

Enough. I will wait for when stocks become available. When I can walk into a store and buy it like any other product. A damn shame I don't want to jump ship but I don't need this experience. Maybe, it is not such a bad idea to think about jumping ship.

Simple solution- don't participate- really do not understand the intent of your posts. What I do find interesting is that all these long winded posts from fairly new people, that seem like PR comments- just my opinion. There are plenty of HTC's for .99c at Verizon and ATT

Right. I giggle harder & wonder why other people worry or find it weird or funny or take time to post in message boards about why people spend their money on such and such stuffs. :p

It's not just a phone - it's a pocket computer with a camera, music player, gaming system, streaming movies, internet, navigator, flashlight, intelligent assistant, travel guides ... you know the drill. :D

You know what's even funnier? People who take the time to make a pointless reply to a comment they themselves find so pointless.

Okay, so it's a PDA.

TOKYO (Reuters) - Sharp Corp is making "adequate volumes" of displays it is known to supply for Apple Inc's new iPhone5, a company executive said, indicating that a possible bottleneck in supplies of screens may have eased.

Analysts had blamed a shortfall in supplies of display for leaving Apple with too few iPhones to meet burgeoning demand at its launch this month.

At the end of August three weeks before the new iPhone went on sale, Sharp, which was supposed to be mass producing at its Kameyama plant in central Japan, had fallen behind schedule, a source earlier told Reuters.

Sharp, the source said, was struggling to improve low production yields, raising the question of whether Apple would be prepared to sweeten financial incentives to secure an acceleration of production.

Availability issues are common for any popular gadget. I had several friends have the same frustration with galaxy S3 availability after its US launch. The PS3, Nintendo Wii, and countless other products in the past 10 years had similar issues too.

It's a sad fact of tech life.

Tickle me Elmo wasnt a tech product and look at the madness attached to that.

It happens and it is good for the company. Who cares about the consumer. It is a good "problem" to have and every company in a capitalistic society is looking for their own piece of it.

This only happens for the launch. You don't have to jump through the hoops once the supply stabilizes.

Waiting until saturation in one country before selling in another makes no sense.

I still chuckle when I think about the fact that people are paying nearly a THOUSAND DOLLARS for a damn phone.

I still chuckle when I see someone with a $80,000 car, or a million dollar home. I mean its just a place to live and a machine to get you from point A to point B, right? Listen, everything in life can be brought down to being meaningless or silly, but everybody has their own passions or hobbies that they spend absurd amounts of money on. To each their own :)

It's not about apple, it's about dozens of other countries with short supplies, especially displays. Try to make 10 million iphones in 3 weeks before launch.

Exactly.

Yeah, you're right. I guess I should just keep my thoughts to myself. I apologize for taking up your time.

I could not have said it any better myself, OP.

Although I ordered my iPhone 5 on Monday, I don't really mind that I won't receive it until mid to late October. I don't absolutely need it since my 4S will serve me well until then. I refuse to wait in massive lines, or camp outside a store a week before the phone is released. I love Apple, but there is a line I draw.

Yep same I can wait. I have the HTC rezound and although I can't wait to jump off android and start developing for the iphone more I can wait.

I agree with you 100%.. woke up this morning and now seriously considering canceling my black 64gb order that won't arrive until the end of October.

Blackberry 10 is much more exciting and probably more worthy of my patience.. I Just need a new phone now!!

It's really simple. We don't get the thrill of being chased by lions any more in our comfortable modern day life. So we generate something similar but safer feeling in consumerism.

lol, did you hear abou that guy on the news the other.. he jumped into a lion den and got mauled haha. thrill seeker

Sometimes people enjoy the hunt of a rare product more than using the product themselves. It's a mission/game.

I get more hyped up researching and going through hoops than actually having the product in my hands.

Once the product is in my hand, my interest kind of drops...I still enjoy the product, but it doesn't give me that high I had trying to find the product.

I pre ordered on friday at about 2:00 pm...It came right on launch day at 1:30 pm...The new iphone was flawless and came right on time...No problems whatsoever....Large numbers of folks probably had the same hassle free experience.

Sounds like you're just upset because you didn't get it when you wanted it...I can understand being a bit disappointed...And I see your point about how rediculous it is to wait in line for hours or spending all night trying to find one....But jumping ship because it wasn't available exactly when you want it because of the huge demand ? Don't you think that's a bit overboard ?
