Personally, if you don't carry your phone in your pocket with KEYS, METAL or anything else that can scratch it - yeah, you don't need a protector. It's literally almost physically impossible to scratch unless you do something stupid to it.

Drop protection, eh, I haven't seen anything worth investing in except the otterbox. Honestly that's the only case I think that will help with how fragile the case is.

Personally I have dropped mine 4 times thus far, once thrown across the room 25 feet and all I had was the Next Generation Polymer NGP case on...no cracks as of yet.

Just be careful with it, but no, I don't think a screen protector is necessary and I'm AMAZED at how many people use them/the business for them. Honestly amazed. Had my 3GS for 2 years, I consider myself a rugged user who uses their phone at work, home, play, throws it around, gives it to others, etc...never got a scratch!

The 3GS has only been available since last year.

Eh, I consider the 3G/3GS the same phone since I had them both and the differences were minor! LOL! I goofed. I've owned every iPhone except the original...which I think I'd want the most just for the aluminum back. I held one once during this last launch

Some guy was upgrading from the original to the 4 and he clicked texts and it took literally almost 8-10 seconds for them to load. It was awesome. :D
