AT&T, Verizon, and almost every major 3rd party reseller has a location in IL and does tax. Amazon isn't selling them, and B&H photovideo seems like the only other place to get one tax free besides overpaying on eBay.

Plus, I'm stuck with $$$ in Apple Gift Cards! I'd rather pay a tax premium to have a manufacturer like Apple send me a product. The shipping estimates and info are real and they don't lie and cheat you like AT&T and Verizon seem to be with online orders that were placed day 1 still left unfulfilled. It's worth 80 bucks in tax to guarantee I get one.

Oh brother. Google is your friend.

You could have ordered from the following online retailers and paid zero sales tax. Each of these retailers have shipped thousands of iPad 2's including 64GB 3G AT&T models while Apple is just beginning to ship the high end AT&T models.

all i am saying is... you knew what you were getting into with the fees.. dont go onto these discussion boards and complain. do your research before you set up a contract with a cellular company. all im saying is, 'tis your fault.

You're kidding right? I got roped into the same thing these guys did. When you see the apple store lines stretching for a mile, then walk by Verizon and they say they can fedex it to you 2nd day and have plenty in stock that's a tempting offer.

I truly feel sorry for anyone that purchased a Verizon 3G iPad 2. Its resale value will plummet in comparison to a comparable AT&T model due to the fact that is CDMA and is locked to the Verizon network in the United States.

The AT&T model on the other hand is factory unlocked and since it is GSM, it may be used on networks around the world. Since 80% of the world uses GSM, it will always enjoy a high resale value.

Furthermore, AT&T's 3G is substantially faster than Verizon's 3G network which makes the decision to choose AT&T a no brainer. Very few people except the uninformed, wish to purchase a Verizon model, which is why when you find a retailer with current stock, it is usually composed of Verizon models. It is a classic example of bad money driving out good money.

The Verizon iPad 2 is a boat anchor. If you purchased a Verizon model, I suggest that you exchange it for an AT&T model before it is too late.

Thanks customer service rep. daley

The other representative failed to mention anything about restock fees during ordering. They pretty much just ask what color you want. Charge your card, and tell you that it should be at your home 3-5 days the latest. I am a Verizon customer. This happened to many people who called early on March 11th. So before you start exchanging ideas on a forum. Have one first.

The restock fee only applies to a product that has been delivered and returned. If you cancel an order (different than returning aorder) there is no restock.

The OP is confusing the 2. He probably couldn't hear the Verizon rep properly over his own crying and babbling about why he doesn't have his iPad.

Verizon absolutely dropped the ball on how they handled the iPad launch (just like Apple) but I really don't see them gaining anything by keeping $70 of customers money without actually ever delivering the product.

OP call back cust service, be polite and get the correct answer.

If you were smart you would have gone to an apple store. I'd never buy an apple product from anyone other than apple.

a. it's not hard to unlock a phone
b. china is one of the biggest new markets for apple, and China Telecom has over 90 million subscribers.
c. anyone who travels 10 feet outside a city/highway (exaggerating) knows verizon tends to work better.

Obviously this is the Verizon sucks thread, and aside from their coverage, I 100% agree. I will NEVER be ordering anything from them again I know that much. and I know it's pointless to defend verizon especially in a thread like this I'M NOT TRYING TO. I'm defending the idea that there is definitely plenty of resale value in verizon iPad 2's.

He's not confusing the 2. Many people who ordered from verizon across the country are getting the same quote from CS and store managers. "We can't track your order, we can't cancel your order, you can return it once it arrives and there will be a $70 restocking fee, opened or not"

HOWEVER, this does violate FTC regulations which clearly state:
"If the merchant is unable to ship within the promised time, it must notify you by mail, telephone,or email, give you a revised shipping date, and give you the chance to cancel for a full refund or accept the new shipping date. The merchant also must give you some way to exercise the cancellation option for free, for example, by supplying a prepaid reply card or staffing a toll-free telephone number."

None of which verizon is doing. If you didn't pay cash, you can call your card issuer and dispute the charge and they will remove it from your account and fight with verizon for the money.

I feel REALLY sorry for anyone who got sucked into buying from verizon and paid in cash. Those people are really screwed.

Not to mention, it doesn't exactly pop to the top of your mind to ask about restocking fee's on a product that:
a. you're expecting to get in 2 days and keep
b. no other retailer is charging restocking fees on

but obviously that should be a lesson learned now for the future.

i wouldn't purchase an iPad2 Verizon if it were the last one. I wouldn't even purchase it to resell it as a scalper. I hate Verizon to the very core of my body.

Ok, maybe that was a bit much, but i do dislike them...very much.

I don't know where you're getting your information from, but that sir, is incorrect. Verizon's activation process is identical to AT&T's. There is no activation charge, EVER.

For iPad there is no activation fee.

Verizon has / had $35 activation fee for non-Apple devices.

Wrong, if there hasn't been an activation after quite some time, they will charge you a reactivation fee.

With AT&T it could be 10 years and no activation fee.

Ok, I don't know where you're getting your information from either because I spoke to a Verizon rep directly and they informed me that I can activate the data services on my iPad any time I want with no activation fee, no matter how long I wait between activation cycles, be it 1 month or 1 year.

No there will be very little resale value for Verizon iPad 2's. Firstly, even if unlocked it will be useless in 80% of the world. China Telecom is one of the few carriers that use CDMA and hardly a source of resale demand. Furthermore AT&T's 3G is faster. Of course Verizon has better coverage in many rural areas and you if you live in such an area you have no choice but to go with Verizon, on the other hand you will pay the price when you try to sell your Verizon iPad 2.

Check out eBay, except for a few fluke sales to the uninformed, Verizon iPad 2's are selling at prices which are substantially lower than AT&T iPad 2's.

For those that purchased a Verizon iPad 2, they should think long and hard about keeping same. I would exchange it immediately for an AT&T GSM model.

AT&T is selling much higher right now because it works in more places around the world AND (this is a big and) is very hard to find. It hasn't been released in many countries and in ones where it has the iPad is almost always sold out.

This will not be the case a year from now. People in china won't be paying $3,000 for an iPad in America anymore.

Not to mention, what are the two biggest ways people sell this stuff when the new model comes out? eBay and Craiglist. Which means many people will be selling it to someone in their local community. And if they bought the Verizon model because that's what works best in their area, then any one who buys it from them used is going to want that same coverage.

It's not like a year from now a 16 AT&T is gonna sell for $600 while a Verizon 16 will sell for $200.

Verizon and att sucks. That's why I skipped both and got a wifi only and tether it to my rooted evo 4g. I don't need another money sucking monthly bill. so it saved me 130 + the costly monthly bills. I won

who are you using for service after rooting? just curious. I like your idea - money sucking bills each month are what is putting me off with my current iPhone.

I think this thread was meant for people who ordered iPad 2 from Verizon store, not Apple Store, and got frustrated claiming Verizon customer service sucks, NOT Verizon service sucks. See the first post by OP.

Unless you resell iPad 2 on Ebay now, getting strictly AT&T can be a bad choice here in the USA.

If you get decent Verizon signal in your town, go with Verizon because Verizon 3G is actually faster than AT&T 3G in real world testing (as some have posted in iPad forums, "saturated" cities in NY, CA, country side etc.). In fact, for most people, speed actually does not matter in most tasks when using iPad, which explains AT&T's 250MB Plan. If you get poor AT&T signal, you can't even get the speed faster than Verizon; you will be sorry with EDGE and will always be hunting for signal rather than speed. True, it all depends on where you live and where you use the iPad (where dominated by AT&T or Verizon).

Why bothered with current resale value when you are happy with 3G service of your choice? There are still people who cannot get their hands on iPad 2! Get the iPad 2 with reliable 3G service of your choice.

That said, WIFI version is actually a better buy without worrying about AT&T or Verizon. 3G service is purely for convenience.

So true in places where Verizon works.

Indeed. In about a year from now, iPad 3 will come out and iPad 2 will definitely depreciate to the point that the residual/resale value difference between AT&T and Verizon does not matter. We should really enjoy iPad at least as much as depreciation iPad 2 will take in a year.

Really no big deal since only 21% of Americans have passports and would use the AT&T models outside the USA. Only 15% before you needed a passport to go to Canada and Mexico.

Just saying!

Update

I thought Att was bad. At least Att doesn't lie to their customers over and over again. This company is so lame. Really never experienced this bad of a customer service in my life. I kinda believe they pay people to just say they are better, and defend them on forums like this one. So its week 4 still no ipad, still no fedex tracking number, and still no reason why it went from a 2-3 week wait, to a 3-4 week wait. Now I am working on my 4-5 week wait. Wait, less just wait a little longer, so I could have it for the July 4th holiday weekend, woohoo. So lame, so lame. I can not wait until my contract is up. I am counting the days until I leave this lame ass, dishonest, half-brained of a no consumer relations 3rd rate company. I wouldn't be feeling this way if I had my Ipad2, Verizon. You need to wake the F... up. Its not even about the Ipad at this point. Its really about telling the truth. Why do companies feel like the only way to be successful, and gain customers is to lie to them. I guess my generation doesn't like to be misled. So lame....
