Honestly with the addition of an OLED panel on the regular 12 and mini was enticing because of the price but I just love the telephoto lens. If the reg model or the mini had it vs the ultra wide lens I probably would of gotten the mini. Yeah I know the wide lens can do portrait picture but I love the optical zoom as well.

Pretty happy with my 12 and didn't think the pro was worth the premium. Would defo like a telephoto when I upgrade next in either 2022 or 2023 though; the dual camera system is becoming a tad dated.

Love your sweet cat. Otherwise, my extremely old (but amazing) Canon 1D said this. My grandma asked why she was so angry, and I had to explain to her that she was yawning. You absolutely cannot beat a DSLR.

Great picture, and yep you cant beat a DSLR, especially with a fixed prime lens. The best 'zoom' is to use your legs!

I have a mirrorless camera and I love it but the best camera is whatever you have and I usually have my phone on me.

Apple clearly put the optical zoom as a premium feature.
The sad part is, Apple technically can achieve a good zoom without having the telephoto lens if they wanted to. Combination of High res sensors and ML can simulate 2x or higher lossless zoom. Many Android phones are doing this (with Google Pixel focusing on using ML/AI) so they can do zoom without having telephoto lens.

How does everyone know I was using a prime lens? I believe it was the plastic fantastic 50mm f/1.8, but I’m not sure. EXIF info? I just use an iPad anymore and it won’t tell me jack about anything.

It actually might have been the 85 f/1.8. Both are sweet lenses. Like I said, I can’t get EXIF info from my dumb iPad.

But yeah, if the best camera on you is a phone, you don’t have a good camera. It’s good to snap away, but art requires a capable tool.

Well it was easy. That shallow DOF is only achievable by Prime lens, zoom lens do have DOF but it is not that obvious. Also the nose of a cat is very out of focus and blurry. With zoom lens, the nose could be out of focus but still would produce much crisper image.

Depth of field is why a person wants to be a photographer, yes? It’s magical. I had a point and shoot Sony camera many, many years ago. Then Canon came out with the EOS Digital Rebel and I was absolutely amazed by the photos it achieved, because of the DOF. I didn’t know what bokeh was before.

Yeah…

Ok. I’m done. Cameras are great. I reckon you can do with them what you want based on expectations and what you have on hand.

To the OP, love your sweet cat.

Indeed but we are in an era of instant photo editing and where a certain generation are amazed a great picture can be taken by anything other than a phone lol. Phones have gotten much better, but will never compete with a proper camera in my view for obvious logical reasons :p

The bokeh gives it away… either 1.8 or 2.

I came to the conclusion that the phone shooting has its own place in this world. Computational photography is the thing that makes me appreciate the versatility of a phone.
HDR photo: iphone takes numerous photos and come up with a nice picture itself while i press the shutter only once.
With dslr i have to take at least 2 photos with different focus points(dark area exposure - to make it lit, bright area exposure - to have the details). Then i stitch them together in a PC/mac with lightroom - sounds like a big deal of a time.
In the end the results are better but not instant. With the phone the result is not perfect, but good enough given the speed.
Overall, dslr can make much cooler things, but that would require fair amount of work and skills being put towards the final result.
But anyway i can't stand those "fake bokeh" from an iPhone. Otherwise it is good to use as long as i don't use "portrait" mode.

I don’t think HDR represents reality. I know it’s supposed to be closer to what the human eye sees, but I think it goes way overboard. Be it phone camera, TV, etc. To me, it looks unnatural.

Meh, up to 2x digital zoom is usually fine. The zoom lens would have more value if it was 3x or 4x magnification. The Pro Max with 2.5x also maybe.
