wow. I'm going to start eating only organic foods. Or as grandma and grandpa called it... food.

in other news: VERTICAL CHICKEN FARMS... MMM

How about these McNuggets

chickens on life support, with no head (only a brain), no feet and no spine. All for the sake of humanity?!?! does that fall into the organic or free range category? or is this farm raised? I think in 100 years stuff like this will be normal.

Am I the only person who doesn't understand the craze about the organic & free range & humanely treated animals?

Yes, let's cut down more forests to give them more room, pamper them, and let them roam free in the most luxurious farm possible before we pluck their feathers, chop their heads off, toss them through the wood chipper to make nuggets, and/or force them to breed / lay eggs to sustain our business. We'll charge 2-3x more, and people will buy it because they'll think it's somehow better for them. Makes sense.

I have no moral difficulties nor desire to nitpick as to the pre-slaughter life of my meat. It all ends up looking like **** anyway.

Ignorance is bliss.

Yep- exactly. There is no reason for factory farming, none whatsoever. It continues because we continue to eat crap like fast food. The "but it's cheap" excuse doesn't even work anymore, because fast food is not cheap. With $60, I can buy organic local food to feed myself for a week at 3 meals a day- and I eat a LOT.

I eat a lot too. And I love to cook, but being in the military, it just is not that easy. When I can shop, I take my time and make sure what I am buying is not processed meats and stuff that is fed all the same, kept in a crappy farm etc etc. but there really is no way to tell.

Where I am now, there is no choice but to eat the mass produced overcooked slop they serve at DFAC's and in MRE's/Heater meals. Sometimes the locals cook for us or we go out on a friendly visit to a local town and "acquire" food. usually we have to barter with them.
