Not to be too much of a nerd, but I work in the robotics field and handling textiles/fabrics continues to be a really difficult problem to solve. Its both a materials issue (clothing is rarely rigid) and a manipulation issue (need something that's as dexterous as a human hand). Now can someone please invent a robot to fold laundry? How much longer do we have to wait?
There isn't much robotic/automation in the textile industry because of this, but there's significant effort into figuring it out.
